I was in Maplins today and looking at one of these kits.  Someone walked up next to us and grabbed a kit plus their last beginners book.  Was hoping for a quick look through it first but got beaten to it!

...looks an interesting wee gadget!

I got mine in Shepherds Bush only £28.  All the other parts I found on line.

Very slow browser but good fun. I was in Maplins this afternoon looking for a case to put it in.

Or from now on PIface 8)

They are very neat little gadgets and while a little underpowered in some areas and a bit short on general purpose I/O lines are great for some projects. Good enough to run JMRI an drive a Sprog II or similar.

In all honesty this is why I got it, thinking it may drive the elink with JMRI.  There is an example one Youtube.--http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZY6JfIEVYUQ

You can get a cheap case here if you are willing to wait a couple of weeks:

Im looking into using the pi to contorl points and signals etc also. Currently i have one using jmri and a digitrax pr3

hmm, the Pi is bit of sledge hammer to crack a nut  with regard to points control.
try an arduino instead, none of the hassle of ancillary junk that pi  brings with it.
