mini drills

I'm new here; this is my first effort at a post so I'll be short: I had a mini drill at one time which has gone walkabout over the years and I'd like to replace it. I need it for cutting both rails and sleepers. Something using the DC power;any recommends? Tks Al

Hi Al, and welcome to the forum
From previous posts about cutting track, there seems to be a fairly equal divide between those using e.g. a Dremel, and those, like me who use cutters such as Xurons. Personally I'm not sure about broken cutting discs whistling round my head even with safety goggles on
I'm sure you'll get lots of other opinions

I love my Dremel but goggles are a must. When the discs go, they GO. As a general rule I make sure I am operating it perpendicular (or one could say, at normal) to the plane on which the disc is spinning.

Xurons are quite a clean cut given you seldom use them for other purposes and you remember to cut the right way around. I ummed an ahhed about buying them at first because they seemed steep compared to regular cheap-ass side cutters but they are a worthy investment. Even if you are a stingy creature.

I lost my bottle opener to fatigue (student thug life) and I am ashamed to say Xurons work great for that too. You know... in an emergency of the alcoholic kind.

I have the rechargeable unit sold by LIDL stores .Its cheap, appears to be well engineered and works very well. Thoroughly recommended.
