Thought this would be of interest to a few people; on the Mercig site:

The conversion looks seamless, don't think I could afford one of Mercig's masterpieces at the moment so has anyone on here tried this conversion?

Cheers

I've done a 24/1 from the 24/0 which is basically the same external loco, but I may be biased on difficulty as I did the 24 conversion etches which do include the headcode box fold up.

Doing it to Mercig standard is way way beyond me (although I at least fix the roof 8-P ) but it's possible to do 24/1 and 25/0 with folded brass, glue and partial repaint. Mine is spot more complex as I've also fitted token catchers and 2mm fine scale wheels to it.

Doing it really well means moving the lights so you've got the red/white lights on the bottom and for some Scottish periods also fitting lights for the early hi-vis lighting some got. For now I've skipped that, in part because I still plan to rip out the PCB and fit sound so will need to rewire the lighting anyway.

The hardest conversion oddly enough is a Glasgow refurbished 24/0, because they have all the lighting and headcode disks over the plated door but they moved the discs to be central which means major hackery on the noses.

I did build a 25/1 before the Its N Gauge ones came out. I did that my sawing the cabs off an Its N Gauge/Silver Fox 24 resin kit and gluing the cabs from a Farish 25/3 on and then fixing up the cabs to have the nose doors each end (I skipped insetting the cab doors)

You can also do a 25/1 from the Farish 25/3 by overlaying the sides with etched replacements, glueing some bits on the roof and an etched nose door with a bit of filler behind it. It's not as nice a result IMHO because the Farish 25/3 is a bit 'square' but there are etches for that choice too.

25/1 from the 24/0 is much harder. The roof changes are more major, the cabs need the doors to be inset, the cabs and floor join is different and there are a long long list of other adjustments.

Much as i would like the Mercig loco, I am just finishing a 24/1 and 25/0 having used your etches Alan.

Whilst not to his standard, i am reasonably happy with the result and hope to have them running at Sileby on Saturday.
