Moved over from Virgin to Vodafone for our broadband and "landline" yesterday (3 x faster and £30 cheaper and including international calls). According to all the blurb, it can take up to midnight for everything to complete.

Broadband was up and running straight away, phone could make outgoing calls and the right number was shown at the receiving end. We waited until midnight, but still could not receive incoming calls.

Contacted Vodafone today and have been informed that completion of the phone transfer involves an extra stage with OpenReach and takes around 48 hours!

Why is that not in the blurb, on their websites and in what they tell you? My wife has now missed her GP telephone consultation, as they could not call the landline this morning.

It never fails to amaze me how these so called 'Communication' companies just cannot do what they're supposedly all about ::)

No, all they're about is relieving you of as much money as possible, at which they are very good.

they are no better when you leave them.
I phoned up to cancel my EE account, and after several attempts to get me to change my mind with 'special offers', they finally accepted that I wanted to stop, then and there.
advisor told me it was all logged, and a final bill would be sent. I asked about returning the router / hub whatever.
"oh you don't need to" was the answer.
fine.

anyway, a few days later I was packing the hub into it's box with all the other bits and saw that it had clearly printed on the bax that I needed to reurn their property.
I phoned up again, and asked which was right, and I was told I did need to return it. the advisor then checked my account and asked if I was now ready to cancel my account.
I explained that I had, and this one seemed to know what he was doing. he also checked the call from a few days before, and confirmed what I had told him, but the previous advisor had filled everything in, but not clicked submit
he checked and confirmed when I had last used my connection, and backdated the cancellation till then.
he also quoted me a rough final total due of around £30 less than the previous one had.

the next day I got an e-mail confirming the phone line had been disconnected and I would be sent a jiffy bag to return the hub.

EE was FTC ie then copper wire to the house, while the new one is FTH ie fibre to the actual hub.
faster, and £12 a month cheaper.

It's amazing that these companies have some wonderful offers if you want to leave that don't apply if you are a regular customer.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

Octopus energy. I have heard so many good reports about them and their wonderful customer service so I was quite happy to be moved to them from Shell Energy about 6 weeks ago. Until this week that is.
For whatever reason they changed my payment date to the 17th of the month. I have paid on the 10th of the month for many years with Shell and others before that. I logged into Octopus and changed my payment date back to the 10th at the beginning of the month. What happened? They took a payment of £225 on the 10th and the 17th of March!
I've exchanged several emails with them and they say that as my account balance on the 17th was 'only' £169.77 credit then that's all they can refund. I've told them that on the 10th it would have been almost exactly £225 so I want my £225 which they took without my authorisation back. They're still saying no so I will be lodging an official complaint  :veryangry:

Am I being unreasonable?

Modern day gripes #275

There's a show coming up that Mrs Papyrus and I want to see, so we decided to book early to make sure we got good seats. Needless to say, this is not a simple process any more. You can't simply book over the phone, you have to go through an outfit called Ticketmaster, which I have had the misfortune to deal with before. I opened the website but it told me it was so long since I had booked tickets that I needed to change my password, so inevitably you have to use a link they send to your email. I finally got into my account, but they only give you about 5 minutes to make your booking before it times you out. We were still deciding on which performance and tickets we wanted, so we had to start again. And of course, you don't get proper tickets any more, just the dreaded 'e-ticket', so you have to go to the faff of installing their app on your phone. The whole process took about 45 minutes, instead of the 5 minutes a phone call to the venue used to take. And the gig isn't till next year, by which time I will need to change my password again. To cap it all, after doing all this admin so they don't have to, they charged me an admin fee!!  >:(

If you don't have a smartphone of course, it's just tough. Going to the theatre isn't for you any more.

Cheers,

Chris

PPS. In reply to @Trainfish , we've been with Octopus for years and have always found their admin faultless, so I'm sorry to hear you are having problems. Hope you get it sorted.

Sounds like the 'norm' for tickets these days unfortunately @Papyrus. I also print out the so called e-tickets just in case the system is down when I get there. I do this for any tickets including rail. I remember a little while back when the rail ticketing system went down in London (possibly the rest of the country too) and nobody could access their tickets during rush hour.

Back to Octopus. In 'fairness' they have today responded withing 15 minutes to my latest email and say they have logged an official complaint for me. They have said they can't refund more than the credit which is in my account as of now but I think they've completely missed my point in that if they hadn't taken the extra payment then my account would have been £225 or thereabouts in credit at the time of my payment on the 10th. The next point I will raise with them is that if I hadn't changed my payment date then the £225 would still be in my account and not theirs. As I see it this is 100% their mistake in taking 2 payments and not mine for changing the payment date. Unless of course anyone here disagrees?

Hi

Car can be stolen without access to the key. I keep mine (key) in a Faraday pouch to prevent this.

"Keyless access" kind of defines theft, really.

A lot of modern key fobs 'go to sleep' after a few minutes if not moved, so they are not transmitting any signals that can be read by machines in the hands of .... people of a certain disposition. However, a Faraday pouch can be a further line of defence.
