did a shop at the local Tesco superstore today, you can hardly get down the aisles for signs saying how they are reducing prices, got to my favourite aisle
wines and spirits,
got a bottle of scottish water,
got a bottle of tesco's cream sherry 

got home and check my last couple of receipts

8th august - price was £8
12th august - price was £9
16th august - ie today - the price is £9.25 

you know me so well, on the phone to customer services........

outcome

correct price is £9.25
if you are unhappy with that price you can return the item for a refund 

the lesson from this seems to be

shop at Lidls

Got my car insurance renewal today.....

It's gone up 63%!

Why?? The only thing that has changed since last year is that Mrs P and I are a year older.

I looked on a comparison site and I can get it £100 cheaper... from the same company. Grrr.

I saw the other day motor insurance has risen by between 40 and 70%. Their excuse is cars cost more to be repaired at present. I'm dreading my car insurance renewal in December but my motorbike insurance was slightly cheaper in June. Welcome to 'Rip Off Britain'. I must be lucky then as mine went up by £5 for the year until I bought a new car then it was £100 extra for the year but that was only to be expected as the new car is worth more than the old one was.

I have to admit that, up to the begining of this year, 90% of my shopping was done in Tesco. I then discovered that the cat food at Aldi was in the region of 20% cheaper than Tescos own label. */?>.:'# DPD - again. I received an email this morning stating that 'Sam' would deliver a parcel at lunchtime. As I said to Louisa, "Oh dear, it's not Jason, so it will not arrive today". I have just checked the DPD tracking site and, sure enough; it states that they could not locate my premises. For  sake, every individual address in Ireland has a unique 'Eircode', so there can be no excuse. Just sent an email to the DPD Customer Relations people and asked for a reply - if they can find my email address to reply to!   

I had a delivery by parcel post scheduled for a morning delivery. I left for work at 2pm and hadn't had the delivery. I found a "sorry we missed you" card when I got home. I phoned the number on the card and rescheduled for the next morning. 2pm comes and goes but no delivery. Next morning at the depot, I tried to collect the parcel and the customer service guy said,"I'm not sure I can find it". I told him he had 5 minutes to locate it then I was off and they could keep it for the statutory 6 months. He asked me what was in it, I told him it was fresh kippers and in 6 months, he'd know exactly where it was. He found it.

Gawd! You have a nice cousin-in-law, or whatever they're called.

email to say my delivery of bulk bags of top soil, compost and soil enricher would be on 08/09/23
so what is the problem ?

Pallets are off-loaded kerbside using a tail lift and positioned using a manual pallet truck. Manual pallet trucks can only operate on a flat, level, concreted, or similar firm surface. They cannot operate on slopes, gravel, earth, grass or any other type of non-solid surface. Please ensure a flat and hard standing area, such as concrete, tarmac, or block paving, is available for unloading.
my front parking area is plastic gridwork with pea beach infill.

so I phone them, and wait, and wait and wait...
at last a person, "no we can't unload on that, the bags are loaded on the pallets two high, and the pallet truck won't work on that surface. the driver can look at it if you want"

another call, this time to Wickes, 'large volume of calls' etc finally get a human.
order cancelled and refund requested.
also cancelled the rest of the order which they were going to deliver thursday, without the soil etc, no point in having the bricks to build the new raised beds 

now I need to find another source of top soil / etc who can deliver bulk bags with a truck with a crane, not a pallet truck.

ahh well, at least thursday and friday are now free.

Do you have Sydenhams down your way? I always find them good and they always have a HIAB (other cranes are available) on board.

just checked, and none near here.
also their top soil was from Rolawn, so may be delivered 'straight from the supplier' as with Wickes, so back to the tail lift and pallet truck.

Trying to sell a Unimat 3 lathe with milling attachment, it's mounted in an od sewing machine cabinet, folds away when not in use; tried all the local second hand tool dealers, they don't wanna know. I don't do farcebook, no longer have an Ebay account - even if I had it would need to be "Buyer collect".
Same thing with a KNK Zing plotter cutter.
I've also emailed the local Area group - no response!
Part of the old age creeping on syndrome, I've not left this building since March, just waiting on moving to sheltered accomodation which means a considerable downsizing operation.

Is the a "Men in sheds" near you? They might make use of it.
