The Q

The Mail and the Mirror have just ripped off the railway modeller article this month

They must have obtained permission as all the photos are copyright and they say that the full article is available in this months Railway Modeller.

So not really a 'rip off'.

The news is everywhere now, along with a picture of Steve Flint presenting a gift to Rod Stewart. The publicity has got to be good for RM

Steve Flint was interviewed on Five Live Drive. Apparently no one from RM has actually seen the layout! I suppose Peco's budget didn't stretch to transatlantic flights.

I think they said it's also due to be featured on Five Live's breakfast show.

It seems Rod has an album coming out....

I've no idea what is available in skyscraper kits: how much of that is scratch-built?
Perhaps the proof that there is intelligent life in outer space is that they haven't contacted us.

There is an American supplier of Skyscraper kits, their name escapes me at the moment. They are models based on real architecture and they are not cheap.

Reading the article, much was kit bashed. I don't usually buy RM but I have read articles on Rod's layout in the past and, whilst he has incorporated many roads, it started of as a New York Central layout and has developed from there, but I did go out and buy it today and was really disappointed, it didn't offer any more than had already been published on line apart from a picture of Steve Flint and his mate with Rod. Hardly worth £4.80.
I think they missed a huge opportunity to really promote the hobby through a global superstar however, stuffing one up that tool Vine was worth it.

You don't 'promote the hobby' through RM. That's preaching to the choir. The layout has had quite wide coverage in the papers and in the media, drawing on the RM article. *That's* promoting the hobby.

Today The Times has two letters under a heading about HS2. Here's one this national newspaper has chosen to print.

QuoteSir, Rod Stewart's model railway was inspired by post-war Manhattan ("Rod Stewart's favourite track is his New York model railway", Nov 13). My own was inspired by HS2: it has been long in planning and I have nothing to show for it.

It should boost the sales of R.M. this month though.
