After almost 18 months out of work and watching my beloved oil and gas industry dwindle away with little enthusiasm from the Uk government to do anything about it I'm delighted to say I have finally got proper full-time engineering work again this past week or so.  Sadly away from oil and gas / marine and I really terribly miss being out at sea every other month.  on Hogmanay I paid solicitors fees and listing fees to sell my flat, cleared half of its contents then got this job 15mins away so although I've had to write-off a grand in fees at least I'm not out of house and home just quite yet now.  Xmas and new year was pretty grim so hopefully 2016 has better prospects.  But it's proper Engineering work and a perfectly liveable salary.  See if I can last the probation!

Good luck to you and well done on getting the job.  (In the grand scheme of things, a grand is nowt!). David.

That's excellent news Rich, well done! I remember we both talked about being in the same predicament early last year. I found something and started in April and am still there so no reason why you can't do the same. I love it where I am even though I am used to earning around £7k - £8k more per year but hey, the money isn't everything, just means I had to cut back on luxuries like erm, not sure what I cut back on now, probably nothing.

Anyway, it sounds like you got what you want so fair play to you and good luck mate!   :beers:  :claphappy:

In April 2024 I will be raising money for Cancer Research UK by doing at least 100 press-ups every day.  Feel free to click on the picture to go to the donations page if you would like to help me to reach my target.

To follow the construction of my layout "Longcroft" from day 1, you'll have to catch the fish below first by clicking on it which isn't difficult right now as it's frozen!

...yea I'm going to be earning about 65% less (gross) than I'm used to -but I learned the value of money now.  I never saved much before and to be honest %-wise I should take home more now as tax has changed so much in the last year or so (I used to get hammered for tax, now will be paying very little)!  I'm just happy to be back in work now -it's just taking allot to jog the brain cells back in to play.

I didn't mean to sound flippant or anything like that Rich, all I meant was, okay, you are a grand down, but now you have a chance to earn that back and, more importantly, you have a job again and can feel happy with your lot. Shall I shut up now?  :). David.

I think I`m at last bringing myself more up to date with teckn-gizmo-fotogra- :-\ stuff.
Ive just given in and instead of buying a new camera (long overdue) Ive iinvested :worried: in a 10" android tablet with front and rear driving cameras.
Just hope I can learn to drive it as I think it may be DCC but cant be certain  :-[

With some DCC systems you can use your tablet or phone to drive your train. It's great fun.
