Sounds like one for your union.

My boss managed to get the IT guy in to set up remote access for us so I am now having to do tech support from home again, using my own laptop and phone again without any reparation. I hate that horrible small man  :veryangry:

Well that doesn't sound like it's playing by the rules at all!

Yes speak to Union if that's an option, or at the very least some form of employment law adviser.

Seems a bit Victorian frankly.

No union unfortunately, small company run by a small man but at my age my options are pretty limited

I have found that employers who do not treat their employees well, generally do not treat their customers well. Not a great recipe for long term success. Hope things improve for you.

There's always ACAS if you can't sort it out amicably.

In April 2024 I will be raising money for Cancer Research UK by doing at least 100 press-ups every day.  Feel free to click on the picture to go to the donations page if you would like to help me to reach my target.

To follow the construction of my layout "Longcroft" from day 1, you'll have to catch the fish below first by clicking on it which isn't difficult right now as it's frozen!

Just before Christmas we decided that we need two more bookcases to match our existing ones, but were too busy in the run-up. Today I went online to buy them, only to find that since Christmas they have discontinued them, having sold them for many years! Not the entire range, but just the one, matching colour that we need. They have marked it as clearance and reduced the price for that colour only. Click and collect only, no delivery available and the only remaining stock is 140+ miles away. Argggghhh! Now I'll have to look at buying four identical bookcases and throwing the existing ones away. What a waste of materials and money.

Sympathy!  Sounds like a typical IKEA trick.  I few years ago I put together some office furniture based on their 'cubes' - a bit utilitarian but the genuine wood veneered version didn't look too too bad.  Now, when I need another cube, the version that looks like wood finish is now some sort of plastic masquerading as wood.   :veryangry:

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing badly.

Round our way, the water board have decided to close the road for 10 weeks to replace a sewer. Ok, inconvenient as to get into Clare should be about 1 mile, but because of the closure now a drive of about 5miles. Also it adds  about 3 miles each way for my daughters trip to work. What has really got my goat is that the road has been closed for over a week and they have done  nothing except put up the fences and dump a couple of lorry loads of earth in a layby.
KISS = Keep it simple stupid

@stevewalker
Is there perhaps a local 'man with a van' type who could collect them for you, I realise it might cost you but perhaps you have saved enough to pay for that service?
Just a thought

stevewalker

Probably not worth the cost and effort.

@stevewalker apologies for trying to help  ::) anyway try getting a quote https://www.shiply.com/l/man-with-a-van/clare

Suggestions are perfectly welcome. It's just that the bookcases are only cheap ones to start with and it's not worth the hassle and cost get hold of them.

just paid a visit to my local supermarket, and while sanitising the trolley handles and gelling my hands saw a  :censored:get out of his car and head straight to the entrance, no mask.

young girl on the door tried to get him to put on a mask, but got a mouthfull of abuse.

mutterings from a couple of guys behind me, so decided I'd probably got backup ..

"put a mask on, sanitise then you can go in. don't give abuse to the young lady"

" :censored: off  :censored: "

oh dear, there is always one, and so far today has been a child of unmarried parents ..

"do you fancy a trip in an ambulance, or are you going to wind your neck in and comply ?"

mutterings, about how I couldn't make him, he had rights etc ..

"you have the right to bleed, you have the right to be taken to hospital, you have the right to probably get covid and die, any other rights you want ?"

"you going to make me ?"

grumbles from two very large labourer types behind me who probably want to get their lunchtime meal deals

"ah  :censored: you, I'll go to ______"

and he left.

WHAT IS IT WITH THESE IDIOTS ????

and would I have hit him  :hmmm: :hmmm:

most likely, he really  :censored: me off, and his attitude to the young girl certainly needed to be addressed.

stay safe you all.

Too bloomin right @class37025

Must say, being a total wuss, I wouldn't know how to handle myself in that situation.

Thankfully I have not seen a single instance of it, but I have yet to go shopping since the tighter enforcement either.

I 100% support your sentiment though, especially regarding the treatment of shop staff. I cannot begin to imagine the feebleness of somebody who behaves in that way.

A good friend of mine, also a shop worker, sums it up best I think:

"Don't abuse the grunts man"

(He is allowed to call himself a grunt, that's not a term I came up with!)

Stay safe

there are those who risk their lives for us every day

there are those who risk their lives to enable us to access shops / services / transport etc

there are the vast majority who obey the rules, simply to prevent us from suffering more

and then there are the  :censored:

I don't want to wear a mask
I can't be bothered to sanitise
I'm happy to break the rules and socialise
I'll abuse anyone [smaller and weaker than me] who tries to get me to obey the rules

and then there are the silent majority, ready to do what needs to be done to protect us and those we love

then of course, there are MPs [no comment]

I give thanks every day to those who risk their safety to protect  us, and to those who see fit to ignore rules / abuse those who are expected to enforce them don't do it in my sight.

"yeah though I walk through the valley of death, I fear no man, for I'm the meanest  :censored: in the valley"

the sooner the idiots reailise they face an army of those who do care, and will not tolerate them and their refusal to obey, the sooner we will rise above this terrible virus.

oooooohhhh raaaaah [as Gibbs would say]
