Quote from: Moonglum on October 14, 2023, 06:55:53 PMThat's interesting @grumbeast , I liked "Tubular Bells" in part at the time but recall "Hergest Ridge" being a disappointment. Maybe it's time to re-evaluate.

Cheers,

Tim

Tubular Bells is of course amazing, but I've found I like the long build up and layering in Hergest Ridge Part 1.  There are a couple of wacky bits on the album but you have to expect that with Oldfield :)

I was listening to a bit of Pink Floyd earlier and quite enjoyed it, they're pretty good aren't they?

I then listened to some Eric Johnson. I love Cliffs of Dover  :music:

Good choices of tracks Martin, Tim and John. Especially as been doing chores at home after Milton Keynes this morning and travelling then what's needed to be done at home

Newportnobby

A well known classic from Led Zep...............

and a lesser known classic from Led Zep................

Moonglum

Both excellent tracks from @Newportnobby - I always thought "Physical Graffiti" could have been stripped down to be a fantastic single album (rather than a double album). A bit like Pink Floyd's "The Wall"....

I was very lucky to see Led Zeppelin live at Earls Court London in 1975, £2.50 a ticket then - awesome!

Cheers,

Tim

Newportnobby

They were one band I never got to see. I did take 2 different girlfriends to see the film "The song remains the same" and, embarrassingly fell asleep both times in the dreamlike bits.
I wonder why they didn't go out with me after that :hmmm:  :-[

Moonglum

Well! two girlfriends eh @Newportnobby - they must have been tiring you out!

Cheers,

Tim

Following on from Snarky Puppy and Ezra Collctive yesterday on this thread I came across Ghost Note today.
What a great band - full on fun and enthusiasm:

As for Led Zeppelin, they were never one of my favourites being somewhat over rated in my opinion but I did see them twice in the early 70s.
One of the occasions was on a "Return to the Clubs" tour at Bath Pavillion.
The whole tour was largely unadvertised and low key hence the place was half empty but it was a great atmosphere

Not really my sort of music but I love this and just watched him on YouTube as well.
He can certainly play and this track rocks along at a good old pace.
Great stuff

Here is one for you to try out Martin, @port perran . Steve Hackett and Djabe (a Hungarian jazz band)

https://youtu.be/7hjTgzQx1ew?si=6FNVAomM2TespEmz

Originally a Genesis track from "Selling England by the Pound". A soulful solo by Mr Hackett.

Somewhere on YouTube is a mind boggling version of "Los Endos" from "A Trick of the Tale" (my favourite Genesis album) from the same band. I will now give Ghost Note a listen.

Found it https://youtu.be/2r5UYV1oVec?si=Do4wHj3kEvsnuO77

Not many people know of Eric Johnson but as you say, he can certainly play. I was going to link to a live version of Cliffs of Dover but if you don't already know the track you may have stopped listening after about a minute as he does like a long intro. It's one of my favourite singalong whilst driving tracks even though it's instrumental, I sing along with the guitar rather than the non-existent vocals. Maybe I should record me singing along to it and post it here

Mention of Steve Hackett made me give one of my favourite tracks of his an airing.....
