In April 2024 I will be raising money for Cancer Research UK by doing at least 100 press-ups every day.  Feel free to click on the picture to go to the donations page if you would like to help me to reach my target.

To follow the construction of my layout "Longcroft" from day 1, you'll have to catch the fish below first by clicking on it which isn't difficult right now as it's frozen!

I have 9 in total

Farish 47 (Large logo)
Farish 47 (BR Blue)
Farish 37 (BR Blue, currently being mended)
Farish 24 (BR Blue)
Farish 08 (BR Blue)
Farish 04 (BR Blue)
Farish 55 (Green with SYP)
Farish WD (Late crest)
Farish Fairburn (Early crest)

I sold a 108 DMU to fund the Fairburn, this was quite a big step for me because I'm a bit of a hoarder!

I also have the Cumbrian Mountain Express on pre order so That'll make 10 all together - I'll have to get another slice of the turntable track to fit them all round it...

I have tried to only buy both locos and rolling stock to fit both my era of late 70's br blue and my layout which is a western region through station with a stabling point...I run all fixed rakes except for swapping the locos around and all my stock is on the layout...my maximum storage sidings for the rakes is 15 plus a 3 road stabling point.. Currently have 1 hst,1 class 24,1 class 25, 6 class 37,5 class 47,2 class 56..which are pushing the era a bit,1 western ,2 class 108 and 2 class 101.. I run the DMUs as 2 sets of 4 cars....so that's 21 think but run as 19 ...I plan to have 8-12 locos on the stabling point so my Max will be 30 ish!!!!.....I just need DCC ready class 31,class 33,class 50 and 45/46 and that will be it...at a push we used to see the odd pair of class 20 and occasional 40 ...plus 08 and 09 and 03 shunters...oh god this is getting addictive...

23 bought over the past 10 years. 6 of which are non-runners. So over 25% of the locomotives I've purchased have failed. Mainly 66's with one 150 with a possibly split gear. :veryangry:
The newer models seem more reliable but I bought a Farish Colas 66 last year that failed on its second outing.

Currently I have -

  1   class 03
  4   class 08's
  1   class 14
  4   class 20's
  2   class 24's
  3   class 25's
  4   class 37's
  2   class 40's
  6   class 46's
31   class 47's
  2   class 55's
  1   class 56

  5   DMU's

I've very tempted by the lineup of Dapol Westerns but I'm not really looking to add hydraulics.

I also have 3 class 31's on pre-order and I do believe they are getting close. Now if only Dapol can get their 33's finished.

Everything is and will be BR blue.

31 class 47s!? That's the better part of a tenth of the original fleet

This is a fascinating question and one that it is time I answered for myself not the least in case the shed containing my railway burns down. My total is 41 although I have 4 Intermountain SD40-2s and an LMS Jinty on order to add. I started N scale in the late 70s and 6 of my locos date from then. The rest of my locos have been acquired since I restarted in the hobby about 10 years ago. Along the way I have bought and sold many more locos as I have adopted the strategy of trying to limit the size of my inventory. This has been only partly successful.

I've kept the K4 because it was my first N loco along with the other oldies because they are N scale classics and in some cases (Mallet and Hudson) are still good runners even going on 40 years old.
