Do any of you very knowledgable chappies out there have any idea what type of diesel locos, if any, would be found on the branch lines around Grantham or Peterborough between 1945 and 55 ???
I feel I could do with some variety but don't want to get the wrong type. I'd never live it down with all the critics on here   ;D

I usually point people in the direction of David Hey's website. The transition from steam to diesel.

I think you are limited to black shunters in that timescale... My assumption is that you are limiting yourself to early BR crest with blood and custard carriages for the post-nationalisation period; whilst catching the tail-end of LNER.

Perhaps a suggestion in terms of timescale is to shift the ten-year period back by three years to cover 1948 - 1958. Here you will still get the tail-end of LNER liveries - although some 'big four' liveried locos and stock lasted until the early 1950s, especially the smaller and older feight engines - as well as early diesel; first batch class 31 and 40 I understand worked here...not too sure about the class 20 at that time, as well as early DMU. You would also get the transition of bood and custard to maroon coaching stock.

Upnick posted this on my forum. Haven't had a proper look yet, but it's all about railways in the 1950s.
