Some 'comedian' has decided that summer in Ireland will be next Thursday, the 10th. Apparently we are due almost day long sunshine, just a warm breeze with temperatures of 25°C  . Then of course, it is back to 'normal'  . It started off quite nice this morning, but it is now raining. If I remember correctly, up to the end of July, it had rained for some part  of the day on 23 consecutive days in our part of Ireland, and, as it has rained every day of August so far, that makes 29 consecutive days with some rain! When we were first talking of moving to Ireland, Louisa asked me what the weather was like. I told her that it was a bit milder but a bit wetter than the UK  .

Preston in July had 285% of the usual July rainfall and in one weekend had 111mm of rain.

That is one thing that amuses me about peoples comments on the 'poor summer' we have had - how easily everybody seems to forget that June was real summer weather. Still, we would not be English, (or Irish), if we were not complaining about the weather.

Logan [no 2 grandson] and I have just had a wander round the local field, with HB, and collected a couple of tubs of blackberries [I keep the tubs the salad comes in from our local takeaway for this]
fields have still not been cut / baled, and really look dry and dead.

apparently some nimby's complained the fields were cut too early last year, ie when lovely and green / moist. so this year they can't be cut till after 1st august.

the farmer who cuts / bales / removes them FOC for the council will probably now not find it worth the time / diesel.

Having spent more years than I can remember dragging a hi-fi unit pushed on me by my parents around in all my house moves, I finally decided it was the last piece of dark wood furniture and had to go in place of the 'antique pine' that constitutes everything else.
Got a call Monday to say it was ready (it was built to my spec) and delivery arranged for Thursday 17th between 10-12 a.m.
Emptied out said old unit and arranged for a friend to help me move it out this afternoon.
The doorbell rang at 11 this morning and there was the van with my piece of pine furniture, just as I was about to go out. Told the guy "You're a day early" and he replied "They sent me out with it this morning and I can't do tomorrow although I can see it should have been tomorrow"
I just said if he gave me a hand to move out the old one I'd accept the new one today and that's exactly what occurred. I was happy to get it today as it frees up tomorrow morning, and when I phoned my mate he was more than happy 'cos he's more decrepit than I am!
So I can spend a leisurely morning tomorrow plugging my stack system back together and start annoying my noisy neighbours again with surround sound.

No, we haven't! You haven't been reading the news. SE Water have lifted the hosepipe ban, but now that it rains every other day, we don't need to use them.
