I wonder if anyone can help.  I was looking for my draft posts and they are not there.  But I noticed a notice that drafts will be deleted automatically after seven days.  This is a new feature.  Does this mean that my draft posts have all gone?  I had a good few of these because I often work on a post for several weeks (or months!).

With many thanks and all good wishes.

John

Not much help with your lost drafts, I know, but when I need a long cogitation over a particular post, I usually compose my quality product in MS Word first, and copy and paste it when I am done. Admittedly, the other reason is that the only time I tried to 'save as draft' under the old regime, I couldn't work out how to find it again...

Cheers,

Chris

Quote from: Newportnobby on July 22, 2023, 09:52:14 PMIn the meantime I do hope the following are still on the 'to do' list

No facility to 'Insert Quote' which we used to have and was hugely useful

Cannot bookmark a thread, and all my previous bookmarks have vanished which will be a real  :censored:  :censored:

Quote button is either on a post you want to reply to, or there is a quote button in the 'new post' box, with the smilies.

Not the same thing as 'Insert Quote'
When posting a reply we used to be able to look down the previous posts and quote from one, say, 10 posts back.
As it stands it's causing multiple posts rather than one post with several quotes in it

Also the NGF Links have gorn AWOL

agree with you mick. Plenty to get on with and some helpful replies to other queries I've had. There maybe some issues posting photos which ntpntpntp replied as did Chris at dawlish

Quote from: njee20 on July 23, 2023, 03:37:33 PMI wonder if it defaults to (or is set to) unread since last visit? It only showed 3 this time (including this one). Browser/device doesn't change it. Shame if that's the case, all unread is far more useful IMO.

I think, the 'Updated Topics' button is just for those threads that you're subscribed to.  So for me, that's any thread that I write it, as I automatically ask for notifications of replies.

The 'Unread Posts' seems to be any new posts that you haven't read.

That makes sense on 'updated topics', so it's like the 'view new replies' or whatever it was called in the old world. Unread posts is definitely giving me a truncated list though. Given no one else has mentioned it I assume it's uniquely my problem, so not one to worry about!

Remind me how I (and others) donate to the forum coffers without you paying fees? What's the PP account?

Edit: just seen the sticky, as you were.

OffshoreAlan

I can't get the font option to work.

Quote from: njee20 on July 23, 2023, 12:37:21 PMWhen I press "unread posts" I'm typically only getting 6-8 threads listed, where I'd expect hundreds (I may be prolific, but not that prolific!). Equally "updated topics" doesn't seem to be a chronological list of everything.
I'd noticed similar...

"Updated Topics" is the equivalent to the old "New replies to your posts" link.

I **suspect** that "Unread Posts" is the equivalent of the old "Recent Unread Posts" link which always gave a much shorter list than the "All Unread Posts" list (I never did really understand the difference or the criteria for the first, so always used the later...)

At the top right of the 'short list' returned by the "Unread Posts" link, there is button labelled  "All Unread Topics" which returns the longer list, so it's still accessible, just one extra click to get to it, which is maybe a mild annoyance but not the end of the world  ;)

Thank you! I literally just found that button to get the full list of all unread! Like you I see no real point in the "...since last visit" list, but good to have the complete list of unread.

Sorry John, I am pretty sure that these have gone.  I only turned 'drafts' on this morning.

Thank you very much @Tank . I'll rewrite the lost posts and, hopefully, make a much better job of it this time round.  Probably a blessing in disguise!

Thank you @Papyrus for suggesting that wizard MS 'Word' wheeze.  I'll do that from now on.

With all good wishes.

Nice one, I hadn't found that.

Testing font feature

Not working in Preview, so I'm having to post it to test.

OffshoreAlan

There you are - it's only in preview where it fails to work. Rather dilutes the usefulness of Preview (I always use Preview on all my posts)

OffshoreAlan

Oh no - it worked in Preview that time. I must be the problem, so thanks Tank, it seems OK after all.

Tank

Glad that it's working.  I'll test the previews myself tomorrow to make sure.

Just a quick note to say I find the new forum very good and generally fast. I appreciate there may well be a little bit of fine tuning to do looking at other comments and I did find the forum down or "too busy" I think it said at some point on Sunday afternoon but then I saw a post from either Tank or the techy person to say so. I've posted on my thread just now including pictures and it all went swimmingly.
Thanks Tank and techy person, it may be a lot of work and faffing around but it's looking good

Ps, I still don't like the colours of the page though  :D
