Southern Railway 1923-'39

Am I the only one here that models the SR pre WW2, particularly steam?
The difficulty of finding sufficient RTR or kit locos must put most people off, particularly so since the demise of Union Mills.
Has anybody else produced a Nelson, or played miix'n match with BHE N15 and Langley S15 kits to produce any of the variants, by swapping tenders or hacking cab roofs, or an H15 from the BHE kit using a chassis with 6' drivers?
Anything much beyond that involves some scratch building, I've managed an Adams A12 0-4-2 and a Drummond K10 4-4-0; my first M7 was a hacked kit for a Highland railway Drummond  0-6-4T, Dapol brought out their M7 about a year later!

I do model the Southern Railway - but in 00 gauge for the reasons that you give.

I find that there is scant availability of pre-1950s era models in N.

If anyone has done this successfully using kits,this would be very impressive.
