Sainsbury's WW1 Christmas truce advert with choc bars. yuk...

I've seen a few hokey tv ads but this one beats them all.

You mean the one made in conjunction with, and I believe passing some profits to, the RBL ?

Personally, I thought it took a very important historical moment and portrayed it with dignity. The fact it was an advert was almost added in as an afterthought.

Agreed - although the truncated version doesn't pull it off like the full length one does :hmmm:

When I first saw it I wasn't paying much attention and thought it
was a trailer for a WW1 documentary, then later (today) I
realised it was an ad. Still think it's crummy and mawkish,
however each to his/her opinion.

If you buy the chocolate bar then a portion of the price goes to Royal British Legion.  I understand that the bars were sold out very quickly and Sainsbury's were waiting for the next batch from the manufacturers.

Oh well, at least something came out of it. I've never been in  Sainsbury's so
unaware these choc bars were on sale .

End of rant !

Does anyone actually watch adverts any more? I record all my tv, make my own schedules, and fast-forward through all adverts and sponsorship crap. Online, most adverts are blocked (except on the forum, of course). I won't be advertised at. I get very grumpy if that happens.

Generally if something is on commercial telly I record it and watch it later. After all, it's usually 1 or 2 hours of adverts interrupted by bits of the programme :veryangry:
Other times I just use the break for comfort stops e.g. loo, coffee, ciggy etc

Some ads i like, eg Paul Whitehouse Aviva, Harvey Keitel Direct Line, Specsavers,
and adds with talking dogs and cats , however most are guff.

Regarding recording programmes years ago when VHS was on the go
I had a large number of movies , many with ads in them , when I  switched to
a dvd recorder player I transferred the vhs movies to disc and was able to edit out
the ads,a laborious  task. Unfortunately since the change to digital tv my recorder
doesn't work.  :(

However I've managed to download a stack of movies from YouTube using ClipGrab. :)
