Christmas Train 2024

Back in 2017, our grand children were coming over for Christmas and SWMBO liked the look of a Polar Express or some such from Walmart to run around the tree is true Merican fashion.

I convinced her that the LGB Santa set would be a much better idea, as extra bits and pieces are always available, and we could add to the set if we wanted.

So 7 years later, we've added 4 Christmas coaches, one for each year they were here, plus more straight track as the original circle of track wasn't big enough.

BUT, this year we've bitten off more than we can chew.

The 2024 Christmas coach has been purchased, but the little Stainz 0-4-0 loco can only manage 4 or 5 coaches, and we've now got 7. The station track pack was therefore ordered as well, so that some of the coaches can be parked up, waiting their turn.

We got the new stuff last week, so today I decided to have a play and lay the track out where the tree normally goes   

I haven't even looked in the boxes since 2022, and I'd forgotten just how big this stuff is 

Suffice to say that a full loop of track with the station pack just about fits around our dining room, there's no way it's going to fit around the tree without some artful pruning of the design.

ANOTHER BUT, looking on the bright side, with a bit more track and a bit more persuasion of SWMBO I might be able to get a more powerful loco for next Christmas! We could then set it up outside 

The only drawback being the price, $1000 and up
