Thanks Martin @port perran . Krautrock certainly provided a different perspective to the music scene back then. Like you, I knew of a few of the bands e.g. Faust and Tangerine Dream mainly because of their releases on the fledgling Virgin record label.

Good luck with the move, it doesn't seem to have taken that long, so fingers crossed. You probably know that the rock band Muse hail from Teignmouth! - not one of my favourites though.

Cheers,

Tim

Quote from: Moonglum on March 21, 2024, 10:58:32 AMSome of you music lovers may recall the term "Krautrock" from the 70s. An old school friend introduced me to a whole raft of key exponents of the genre (which included many sub-genres). Frumpy (Inga Rumpf) released a few albums and then morphed into Atlantis. Here are Inga and friends in 2006 performing "How the Gypsy was Born"...

Great organ solo!

A rather different incarnation  of Inga Rumpf :

A.O.R. = Adult oriented rock, to my mind anyway.
Hugely strong in the States with bands such as The Eagles, Foreigner, Journey, The Doobie Brothers, REO Speedwagon and luminaries like Fleetwood Mac, they appeared in the UK mainly on the strength of 'power ballads' featured on Top of the Pops.
However, the odd rock gem appeared now and then so I'd commend to the House Foreigner's 'I'm gonna win', Journey's 'Don't stop believin'' and The Doobie Brothers 'Without You'.
On occasion, and usually after too much falling down water, out comes the 'air guitar/microphone' and the neighbours end up banging on the wall for more :D

I bought Journey's first album "Journey" (1975) on the basis that the some the band had fallen out of Santana, generally a jazzy prog rock album that sounds very different to later releases. Here they are with "In My Lonely Feeling/Conversations"...

Foreigner 4 is a classic album, say no more. I think the Doobies best album was "Minute by Minute", thanks for posting Mick.

Tim

I've only just seen your post George @Bealman so apologies if you've already sorted it. If not just copy the link shown below the preview here to send to your daughters. Should work on WhatsApp, email, text message etc

In April 2024 I will be raising money for Cancer Research UK by doing at least 100 press-ups every day.  Feel free to click on the picture to go to the donations page if you would like to help me to reach my target.

To follow the construction of my layout "Longcroft" from day 1, you'll have to catch the fish below first by clicking on it which isn't difficult right now as it's frozen!

I'm not sure if we've mentioned one of the greatest guitarists of the late 60s/70s.
I saw Rory Gallagher three times and he certainly gave value for money regularly performing for two and a half hours.
I never did see him with Taste which was a shame but he is definitely one of my favourite ever live acts.
Here he is with Crest of a Wave

Taste tended to pass me by, maybe as there was no air time anywhere given to them in those days.
I have a Polydor sampler double album containing two tracks by them - 'Blister on the Moon' and 'What's going on'

Well chaps, possibly from good Taste to bad taste. The first version I had and heard of Led Zep's "Whole Lotta Love" was a single by CCS (the basis of the TOTP's 1970s theme), the second was of course by Led Zeppelin and I have to confess I was too sure about it at first. Here though is a laid back version by Beth Hart from 2004 (PG advised)...

Beth is a great singer but has had a few issues.

Where I grew up Rory Gallagher was more famous for his lumberjack shirts than his music.

I still have the CCS version on 45 :-[

Imagine yourself in a smoky basement music club and up steps a lass with an acoustic guitar and a voice reminiscent of Laura Nyro/early Elkie Brooks. It gets a bit raucous at times but I love the way she belts this out.........

I saw Taste at the Sunderland Empire a couple of times. Must have been around 1969, 1970.
Vision over visibility. Bono, U2.

OK, so after Beth, back to something with a bit of class, from one of the men behind CCS, John Cameron with this rather smooth number...

Often sampled and an example of very early chill-out music.

Cheers,

Tim

PS I had both "Whole Lotta Love" and "Tap Turns on the Water" by CCS on 45 Mick @Newportnobby
