Our house has always had a night storage meter which has never been used in the 24 years we have lived here. There was a standing charge for having the, (unused), meter of a couple of Euro a month. I eventually queried about having it taken out. I was told that it could be done, but it would cost a few thousand euro   so I decided, for a couple of Euro a month, it could stay.

On 25th June we had a smart meter fitted, which did away with the night storage meter. I have just received the first bill since the smart meter fitting and I am still being charged for the night storage meter. So, I contacted the supplier via the online chat facility. After five minutes back and forth, the final part of the conversation went like this -
Me: "I presume then that, if I do not change to a smart meter plan, I would be charged for the non-existent night storage meter ad infinitum?"
Agent: "Yes, the plan does not change automatically. Please register for a new tariff yourself. This is how system works. Apologies for inconvenience."

Totally unfair - think about some old person, (yes, I know, I am old), who might be in the same position as I was and does not realise - ridiculous.
(Now looking at who to complain to  ;) ).

Having had a cardio 'episode' at the end of last November and spending 5 days in Preston hospital (a dump but the food was very good), I was given a follow up appointment of 20th August i.e. 2 days time. Methinks nothing was urgent or they'd have seen me earlier.
For personal reasons I can't make that follow up appointment so contacted them and asked for it to be re-arranged. They asked me when I'd be available and I replied "any time after September 17th"
I've been given a date of 14th May 2025 so I guess strictly speaking they've done what I've asked ::)

I suppose that is one of those 'shall I laugh or shall I cry?' moments. At least they did not say that they wanted you there "tout suite".  :)

But how am I going to be available then, if my GP keeps telling me not to buy unripe bananas or long playing records? :worried:

My haematologist sent me 3 months worth of my leukaemia medication, then sent me a date 16 weeks away for my next appointment.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

Classic. They're good, aren't they.

Maybe he thinks the leukaemia will have cleared up by itself by then.  ???  :)

Unfortunately it's incurable, so no, it won't have cleared up by then.

I realise that Malc - it was said with tongue in cheek - sorry.  :beers:

I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis, and I sympathise with your predicament with appointments -Haematology capacity here is a real issue - not enough doctors, specialist nurses, or prescribing pharmacists (let alone space!) to treat our patient groups at the moment, despite banging my head against the monolith of funding for 12 years....

Whichever 1 of you decided to send me a birthday card this year please remember next year to put the correct amount of postage on it. I had a card (not a birthday card) put through the door by the postman today telling me there is an item, and it specified Birthday card, waiting for me at the delivery office which has underpaid postage applied. They want me to pay £1.50 for the 'privilege' of collecting it after I have paid 90p to park too! My birthday was over 2 weeks ago so am I really going to pay for that so I can take 5 seconds to read it and then put it out for the recycling man to collect it? I don't think so. I shredded the card put through the letterbox  :P

Ps, I appreciate it may not be anyone on here and probably isn't either but I just wanted to have a little moan about whoever it was and also the sorting office who I know hold underpaid items for quite a while before they inform you. Why? I have no idea. The other crazy thing is that last time this happened I asked them what would happen if I refused to pay. They told me they would try to work out where it came from and return it. I did argue that this would cost them more than just letting me have it but they were adamant (not in an Ant Music kind of way) this would happen so I let them carry on.

I ordered some kippers by post and unfortunately I was at work when they tried to deliver. I called the number on the card and requested a morning delivery. I left for work at 3pm, no sign of a delivery. The next card said I had to go to the depot, which I did the next day. The guy on the desk said he didn't think he could find the parcel. I told him he had 20 mins then I was leaving and they could keep the parcel. I said by law you must keep it 6 months before you can destroy it. I said you will know where it is in 6 weeks. He asked what it was, I said it's fresh kippers wrapped in cabbage leaves. He was back in 10mins.

At this point I was thinking this post should probably be in the Groaners thread  :hmmm:
