It certainly rained all day/night on Saturday and then we had more all day Sunday, but Sunday's I blame on the Aussies
Are you quacking much?

I try not to, but I do tend to waddle

Why can't you....

....get hold of a plumber?? I need to replace our bath and if I was 20 years younger I would do it myself, but I'm not and I can't. I've tried phoning 6 local plumbers including 2 recommended by neighbours. I left messages with 4 but they never phoned back. I got replies from 2 who came and measured up. One came back with an estimate so ridiculous it's obvious he doesn't really want the job. The other, a long-established firm, still hasn't given me an estimate despite reminders. I'm obviously going to start the whole process again.

And another thing. I answered a post on Freecycle from someone who wanted a baby gate and we have one we don't need. They said they would like it, since when there has been complete radio silence. What is the matter with people?

No easy answer.
I have a brilliant plumber who fitted my central heating, services it annually (much cheaper than The large well known companies) and I recently had a new bathroom fitted. I had to wait 3 months for that to be fitted because he is so busy. The ones who can come immediately obviously aren't very busy, or can't be bothered with small jobs.
Busy or not I can call on my plumber if I have an emergency and he will come asap.

Yes we used to have a tame plumber like that but he called it a day when COVID hit. Good news though - Freecycle bloke has finally got back to me.

Cheers

In our area there are so many new houses being built it's extremely difficult to get plumbers, sparkies etc and, as said, they'll quote stupid prices in order not to get your business.
The one saving grace is a website run by our Trading Standards which is a bit like Check a Trader except I suspect they actually monitor it. Certainly if a company registered with Safe Trader doesn't respond they get penalised for it and could lose their membership

what a load of round spherical objects,
sent on the 8th by yokel 24, but tracking number only supplied on the 11th.

looks like a driver caught his braces somewhere, as it arrived at Gatwick on both the 11th, and then the 14th, or perhaps some clot put it back on the truck :hmmm:

to me, and I know I'm old fashioned, but yodel 24 implies next day delivery, not next week.

do these firms not enter into a contract when they take people's money, or is a case of 'maybe we'll deliver it sometime' ?

or perhaps I'm mistaken, yodel 24 doesn't mean 24 hours, it's 24 days. :veryangry:

Or how many pieces it's guaranteed to be in if it has to be lobbed over your fence.

Newportnobby

I might be misreading it but looks like it started its journey in Northampton on 11.8.23 and then time travelled to arrive in Hatfield the day before :confused1:
It then took 3 days to be transferred between Gatwick Service Centre (Yodel) and Gatwick Home Delivery (Yodel).
Maybe the Service Centre didn't Yodel "It's arrived" loud enough for the Home Delivery folks to hear

dannyboy

Fortunately, Yodel only operate in the UK. However, DPD is used a lot here in Ireland and if I am expecting a parcel via DPD, I always hope that the email notification I get from DPD tells me that a driver called Jason is delivering it, otherwise, it is a fairly confident bet that the parcel will be delayed by at least 24 hours. The usual excuse being that my location can not be found, yet they always manage to find it a day or two later! Our Eircodes, (postcode) are unique to each address, so there is no excuse.

I used to be indecisive - now I'm not - I don't think.
If a friend seems distant, catch up with them.

Strangely enough, my local Amazon Prime driver is named Jason
The lad does gad about a bit, eh?

Browning 9mm

parcel just arrived with label on it
'MON to SAT 48'
so can't understand still why if it was at Gatwick on friday, when I 'chatted' with them saturday I was told it would not be delivered till today.

luckily I was laying gridwork in the drive when it arrived so no danger of it going over the gat / in the bins / or on the roof  :hmmm:

Trainfish

Our Amazon driver is also called Jason, I think they only employ people called Jason. My beer deliveries from Plain Ales are also delivered by Jason but that's a different Jason.

In April 2024 I will be raising money for Cancer Research UK by doing at least 100 press-ups every day.  Feel free to click on the picture to go to the donations page if you would like to help me to reach my target.

To follow the construction of my layout "Longcroft" from day 1, you'll have to catch the fish below first by clicking on it which isn't difficult right now as it's frozen!

I'm confused with all these Jasons, though not as much as the time I had an e-mail from DPD telling me 'Dave' would deliver my parcel, and opened the door to very nice young lady...

'hello Da.... ahhh' :-[
