to post that i had to go through the whole process of uploading a photo i took on my phone and hit the link in the gallery--while waiting for all the "site cant be reached " nonsense.

why cant i just copy / paste photos like i can on all other forums ?
i used to be indecisive...but now i'm not so sure.

Forum timed out before I could access it this evening.
Forum running 'slow, slow, quick, quick, slow'
Just hit 'Post' and was thrown out. Luckily refreshing the forum site showed that post had been accepted before I was ejected

Edit:- just timed out again and some 'ratings' are taking a long time

@ntpntpntp I understand what you are saying. Some of these issues are related to how things were coded. I'm awaiting word from the boss on how he wants it handled.

@Newportnobby just noticed that and finding out from the host if it is a network issue. Seems to be steady now.

@Bigmac   oh, I guess you mean the speech balloons - nothing to do with parentheses (bracket symbols)  :D

If you hover over the balloons it says:  pale = "no new posts", blue/orange = " new posts".

However they don't seem to be at all consistent as I can see pale balloons for categories which have new posts today, and coloured balloons for categories which haven't had new posts.  Maybe another forum feature not quite fully working yet?

The bigger "quote" (or parentheses) tells you if there are new posts in that board: Dark = yes, light = no.

The smaller one, is either pale or orange: It tells you if there are new posts in a sub-board.

e.g. I'm currently seeing no new posts in General, but some new posts in Jokes & Other Hobbies; so it looks like the right-most image in your picture.

Seems there are three "states":

- Dark blue + orange = new posts in that board (and maybe in the sub-boards, maybe not)
- Light blue + orange = new posts in a sub-board, but NOT the main board
- Light blue + light blue = no new posts in that board or any of its sub-boards (if any).

There's lots of different software out there, with lots of different capabilities. The Simple Machines forum isn't the most feature-packed (especially the editor, which is a constant source of annoyance in my experience), but it has the advantage of being generally extremely good, and free. Unlike, say, vBulletin or phpBB.

So - short answer? Because the software this forum is run on does not allow it. It never has done. It may do one day in the future... but who knows?
Cheers!

Whilst that would be useful I fear it wouldn't support adding to a gallery. The gallery is great as you can add titles and descriptions to help find an image again or for someone when they're browsing through the gallery, you can go in and replace with a new image (for example if I decide to crop, enhance or annotate something), and images in the gallery can be re-used in later posts using the BBCode links.  I do that a lot with certain images which illustrate something I may be discussing/advising on in a thread.

Yes, the gallery (I prefer "album") is handy for that. I do the same on occasion.

Just to confirm again....

The gallery is temporary at the moment.  We're looking at extra features being added, which means working with the author.

The message about clicking Reply to upload images is just temporary.  Again, until the author can sort out the coding.

@Bigmac I explained before that these are temporary and I hope to get the originals put back on here.

Logging Out Button:  That's how it is now I'm afraid.

Just as well. Who'd want to be stuck on that page waiting for the next one to come up :worried:
