20' TANKTAINERS FROM REVOLUTION AND C-RAIL INTERMODAL

Revolution Trains is teaming up again with C-Rail Intermodal to offer a set of colourful tank containers as its second ready-to-run container model in N gauge.

This is an all-new model and represents the widely seen containers incorporating modern oblate tanks – the spotting point is the slightly flattened side – and they containers are ideal for use with Revolution’s imminent KFA container flats, and C-Rail’s upcoming KQA/KTA pocket wagon.

Revolution had previously worked with C-Rail to produce a range of well-received 40’ hi-cube containers.

Four variants are being offered initially – in Stolt, Bulkhaul, Hoyer and Nichicon liveries.

Samples have already been received for approval, and the models are expected to be delivered to the UK in Q1 2019.  The price is £9 each.

Cheers,
Ben

Great news, was always a bit jealous these were available rtr in OO and only in kit form in N.

But does mean I won’t finish the kits I have.

looking forward to getting a few of these, was about to buy some kits but given my modelling skills this is a far better option.

I've lusted after these RTR for everrrrrrrrrrr! 30 years ago I could've done justice to a kit. But today getting a good paint finish on those areas where frame and tank intersect, is beyond my failing eyes. To aid my equally failing neurons I shall budget for an easy to calculate 11. :D

At some point please could someone provide an earliest build date for these modern versions of tanktainer?

If they're too modern for me I'll just finish off the 5 kits I've got and if anyone else disposes of theirs for a reasonable price..............

It's not an age thing it's just rather difficult.

However getting the paint 90% right and then looking from more than 2 feet the 10% error is not noticeable.  Well that's what I kid myself!

Will wait for an answer to my previous post before I decide whether to purchase or not.

Initial thought on viewing those samples was "Mmmm, the walkways aren't etches then!". But after more thought, I think plastic walkways are the right choice. I wouldn't notice the finer detail of an etch from distance, while my wallet would notice the higher cost.

A compromise on plastic edges that brings the price down to £9 each makes them very accessible to a lot more modellers - significantly more on price and there would be more empty spaces on my intermodal!

I am almost nailed on for these, but would also like to know dates they have been in use from?

Hello all,

These are the slightly more recent types with the flat tank sides, so are a little different to the kits already offered by C-Rail.

I am not sure exactly when they came into service however, sorry!

Cheers

Ben A.

A quick look on a favourite site for container photos gives the following earliest year for each livery

Bulkhaul - 2011
Hoyer - 2007
Nichicon - cannot find a flat sided example at this time (not even on Google)
Stolt - 2008

This info is only meant as a guide so don't shoot the messenger if it turns out these companies were using this version of tanktainer in earlier years.

These look amazing, I’ve still to get some of the 40’ containers, so these may come first.

Cheers, Timmo
