I would like to know how to access the inside of Farish passenger coaches in order to add LED lighting.
Can someone please help or point me in the right direction to a suitable tutorial.
Cheers Delboy. ???

I know with the old Poole coaches, you just have to blow on them and the roof will come off!  :D Not having acquired any of the new ones, I can't respond, but fitting lights to coaches is a popular topic, and a look with the search function should prove fruitful. I'm sure someone will be along to assist you soon, however.

The main reason I responded to your post, though, is to say welcome to the NGF!  How about posting a bit about yourself and modelling interests in the Welcome section? We are very nosey here and we love pictures!

Welcome DelBoy, you'll find this forum a valuable resource. As a tip when searching, make sure you have the search drop down list/menu set to "entire forum" and not "this thread", or something similar. You'll know what I mean when you do a search.

I started searching for stuff and didn't get results, later realizing I was only searching within a thread and not the entire forum. If you open a thread the search tends to default to that thread and not the whole forum, at least. My experience.

Bealman is a Mod (moderator) so he'll happily be on hand to help, as would many of us minions on here. Welcome!  ;)

Thanks guys for the kind welcome.
I will address my profile asap but suffice to say for now that I am investing in N gauge atm ready for a retirement project which hopefully will keep me busy for a good few years.
I will do as advise re:- the forums and search out relevant info.
Regards Delboy. :)

Firstly welcome to the forum Delboy.

First a quick question - are your coaches the older single piece body tooling or the later tooling with the separate windows?

The older type of coaches with the single piece shells had the roofs mounted using two pins inside the roof along the centre (you can see them through the glazing between roof and floor). The Poole built models just unclip, but China built coaches were glued so are a bit more work to remove, and you're likely to break the pins so you'll need to glue them back together.

With the new tooling coaches with the extra detail, the piping first needs to be gently pulled off the coach ends (these are slotted on not glued - don't remove them off the roof), then the roof unclips at several points along the body sides from clips built into the glazing (ensure you note which way round the roof goes!) and the roof lifts off with the piping detail still attached. These are not glued together.

I did a full tutorial on dismantling the new mk1s here:

Hope this helps.

Hi Chris,
I have both types. It is the dismantling in order to get the LEDs inside that concerns me and of course where best to mount a switch if possible.
I will look at your tutorial for starters.
Many thanks and regards
Delboy.
