The video to the left is a silent film from the 1956 centenary which used the Brighton
Works Terrier to pull the coaches from London to Caterham.
Some of the pictures on this page are from the Mike Morant collection.
The centenary of the line was marked on the 6th August 1956. An LBSCR A1 (Terrier)
locomotive was used to haul a set of coaches from Purley to Caterham and back again.
Great effort went into organising the event which also included posters, street banners,
headboard for the loco, dressing up in Victorian outfits and special centenary tickets
