Wrong title -surely?
« on: December 07, 2013, 07:54:48 AM »
Surely you intended the title to read "Electronics".  With respect the word "electrics" is not synonymous with "electronics"!
Why oh why locate it under the heading "scenery/landscaping"?   If it had to be a sub board why not "DCC".

"Electrics" is right to my simple mind. This covers things hard to understand for my mechanical mind and joined by wires, like loco motors, points, lights, and stuff like that. "Electronics" on the other hand is elevated into the easy to do but utterly impossible to actually understand like solid state chips.

Despite DCC the term "electrics" seems an accurate catch all for model railways.

If it had to be a sub board why not "DCC".

Because things like lights, level crossings and welding-simulators have nothing to do with digital control of trains? ;)

Strongly agree.  The discussion leading to the creation this board was about electronics - i.e. the more sophisticated stuff.

If anything, create a new top-level board called Electrics then put DC Wiring under that along with others like perhaps DC Point Control, DC Panels, DC Controllers, DC Electronics and even DCC Electronics.

Got to add a 'me too' post to this....

Many moons ago I got my ONC in Electronic Engineering, which is totally different to an ONC in Electrical Engineering.

Don't ask for any advice on electronics, I've forgotten most of it now

regards

Neal.

Beware what you ask for, folks.
Too many boards/sub boards and anyone using a mobile to access the forum will have problems. I can't talk from experience as, being a communications Luddite, I refuse to have a mobile with t'internet access (tis the devil's work, you know)

We already have boards for DC and DCC, so this was meant for the electrics/electronics on the layout itself.

Happy to change the title to electronics if that's what members would like?

I thought the original idea was to have a place to put electronic projects and information to make it easier to find.

Have to agree whole heartedly with you on that topic, Mick.

Must admit I thought it would be called Electronics too, on the assumption that Electrics would be covered in the respective DC/DCC boards.  I am sure Tank could rename it to Electronics in the blink of an eye, this would prevent any confusion  ;)
