Hello all,

The chassis is the "generic" Farish chassis too, so the bogie wheelbase, and bogie centres, are also wrong.

Also, while respectable for its time, the bodyshell detail is not on a par with current generation models.  There are no lights and I don't think the chassis is DCC ready.

cheers

Ben A.

Indeed. I've got a couple and although OK for its age, it's a very basic model when compared to say the new Farish Deltic or the Dapol 67.

To me it doesn't look much like a Class 50 at first glance, and the more you look, the less like a 50 it becomes!

Rather harsh. It does of course look like a 50, despite not being millimetre perfect, but it is an old model, and simply has all the foibles that go with that!

Its not really harsh, its how it looks to me - but we each have an opinion on what looks right, or doesn't look so good :)

I would agree with Ben and Robert's reasons the Farish one fails the Reality Test given above.

From the little I have seen of the Dapol version, it does look like a 50 at first glance :)

Couldn't agree more....  :D

I just checked my pre-orders with Hattons for 3 Dapol Class 50s (which I placed in May, 2013!) and I was very surprised to see the price of my pre-order had shot up from 101 to 120 per loco.

I remember the good old days when Hattons would honor a pre-order price.  I guess not any more.  An extra 19 is a big difference; an extra 57 for the three is reconsideration time.

The appearance faults of my old BachFar Class 50s are starting to look smaller and smaller....

Matt

Funnily enough I was looking at this this afternoon!

They are certainly not cheap, but if they are as good as they look they certainly won;t be expensive :) Though I think buying a fleet of them is unlikely!

Looks like we are getting a chance to point out any problems with the CAD drawings from Dapol.
They are asking for folk to let them know if they can see stuff that needs correcting, so if you know your 50's it might be worth a visit..

Thanks for the info. Been waiting ages for these. It would be good if Dapol could get them out next year for the 50 years of this class. 1967-2017. When the cad drawing get approved how long before tooling and then getting them into shops?   Cheers steve44

If you're lucky they'll hit the centenary anniversary.

There's no yardstick whatsoever for how long development takes. With Dapol, I'd recommend just ignoring anything they say!

How long is a piece of string? There does not seem to be much consistency with development times. The first CAD for the Schools appeared in early 2013 and the final model has just hit the shops which makes it 3.5 years. The Light Pacific CADs appeared 4 years ago and have still not entered tooling.  :confused1:

Some models have appeared faster but I would not hold your breath for hitting the 50th anniversary of the 50s.
Well, that's just not good enough. Some fount of all knowledge you are!   ;)

The December 'Railway Modeller' has a piece which says that Dapol have resumed work on the cl 50, with four versions planned; D406 and 50043in blue, 50040 Leviathan in large logo blue, and 50037 Illustrious in NSE. There will also be a Dapol club version of 50007 Sir Edward Elgar in green.

Prices are quoted for dcc ready, dcc fitted, and dcc sound fitted, but no timescale...........

Just pre-ordered my club special - pictures look great.

Size matters - especially if you don't have a lot of space - and N gauge is the answer!

There will also be an exclusive DCC Supplies 50 015 'Valiant' in BR civil engineers 'Dutch' livery (the only member of the class to carry this livery)
"Although Laira based it was often employed on railtours across the network prior to its withdrawal 5th June 1992" sayeth the blurb. Further:-
"Scheduled for delivery during the 3rd quarter of 2018, expressions of interest (without any commitment to purchase) are now being taken by DCC Supplies by phone and via its website www.dccsupplies.com.
Customers will be contacted prior to delivery to confirm their reservation and collect a deposit"
