santa, i'd like this one please....

2D-002-002D CLASS 50 #50040 BR LARGE LOGO BLUE ‘LEVIATHAN’ DCC FITTED

i have absolutely no need for a class 50 on my midlands based layout. i do like them though so i'll probably get one anyway. i recently bought a eurotracks dvd in a charity shop which had a section on the portuguese class 50s which was great. i also just read that a potuguese loco may be coming to britain to the nrm and maybe even the nene valley one day. other portuguese locos have been bought for spare parts for the british preserved fleet.

my dapol 56, 58, hst and bubble car work very well so i am delighted to see dapol producing a 50 as well. i'd like them to make the 25s and 40s next...

I tackled Dapol Dave on those very subjects at TINGS but he just smiled enigmatically and replied 'no comment'. Take that as you wish, but Mona Lisa he ain't :D

Why did I have to read this thread.....

I have to start saving.. 50040 Leviathan was my favourite loco as a boy in the 80s and they go and choose it!  Aargh...  :D Going to have to get it and a rake of mk2 (or 1s)

Dapol are often criticized, but just lately they seem to have developed a spooky knack of coming up with what we want to see :o
Bear in mind when we carried out our N gauge poll and released the results, within 2 weeks Dapol announced 5 locos off our list were in their program :worried:
When I saw they were doing the Bulleid Pacifics my first thought was 'hope they do Spitfire' just 'cos I lurve Spitfires (including the ale) and, lo and behold there it was
If anyone was hoping for the Class 50 Leviathan, why not drop Dapol a line to say 'thank you'?
It's not much effort and I'm sure will be appreciated. It's something I'll be doing when 'Spitfire' arrives.

Can't agree more... We always seem so quick to criticize, but let's face it.. This is a golden age for n scale, so many lovely models, so little money though!  I for one love all of my locomotives, even those that don't run like Swiss watches, and look a little less than perfect.

I'm building my layout with the mainline flat just so I can run my weak kettles, rather than bemoan the fact they can't get up a 1% grade with 2 coaches.. I just love seeing them run

I'm not sure it's a spooky knack

Bachmann has several people in it who are modellers and experts in their field. Dapol Dave was Nthusiast Resprays for years, doing resin kits and respray work.

They aren't just a bunch of  accountants and statisticians they know their stuff too !

i've read a lot of criticism of dapol but the 4 locos i have bought brand new have run excellently straight from the box.

i have two second hand dapol locos as well, one is very good, one is not so good. but that's just how it goes.

cheers

It's gone quite due to the well publicised change personnel. I believe it is due next year, but alot of companies are having issues with China. China is prioritising products for its home market and the much bigger USA market. Unfortunately we are a small market and slipping down the order of priority.

ex-Dapol Dave said this on an earlier rmweb thread

"If it helps at all, and might clarify things further, there are currently, and this has been the way for the last 18months, no (I repeat no delays) in production from the main factory. I know this from experience and the fact that I am using the same factory.
HTH
Dave "

which bodes well for the pending Dapol bits

Hi all,

spoke to a nice man from Dapol at the Warley show about the class 50. it seems like we wont be seeing it until late next year or even 2015. They are not going to say what they are producing until way down the line with it in the future.

Cheers Steve
