I used this (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0041NX0PO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and with a drilled hole through the sleeper works well.

BigMac, I found it easiest to put the pin in the hole in the sleeper and the tool over the top of it and push into place but my baseboard is only 6mm ply so not too tough. I've only used it to temporarily pin sections in place either while working out the trackplan or to hold while the glue sets but no reason it couldn't be used for permanent fixing

Last time I was attaching track with pins I used a toffee hammer I had lying around to push them into the board.

I found the Peco pins to be too thin for a pin pusher?

I had started screwing my Kato track with small self tappers and I wanted to speed things up, but I ended up going back to plan A, screwing the track down.

As my layout is portable, this is probably a good idea....
