Not as good as the Flying Scot the other night on the BBC I think they nailed it. Camera angles all a bit odd and the one looking from the roof was useless. Not sure that the producers quite knew what the programmes aim was. Shame.

Ian Riley did not say that he actually owns 45407, (and 44871).  45407 must be one of the best Black 5's built. a very strong engine.
I did enjoy it but would have preferred a front view from the engine going over Glenfinnan Viaduct, I have seen plenty of aerial shots of this before. A unique opportunity lost I thought.

nice not to have distracting voice over all the time.

But how many times was it interrupted by commercial breaks?
If I remember rightly this type of programme was originally shown on (the now defunct) BBC3.

BBC4, I think, Mick. I enjoyed the canal one and the reindeer herder but missed the country bus.

However, I think my bacon may have been saved on the West Highland one as it appears to be repeated this Saturday at 1710.

Cheers,

Chris

Some interesting comments .  45231 was the Black 5 until august 2019 when 45407 took overduties along with 45212. 44871 is ian riley owned and used on The Citadel tour 9 / 11 / 19 with 45407 after the latter returned to bury

Two hours watching scenery go by. When I was working in Norway they did a real time programme on the Hurtigruten, the coastal mail ship.
Hurtigruten ship MS Nordnorge's 134-hour voyage from Bergen to Kirkenes was transmitted live, where satellite up links could see the relevant part of the sky. It did attract quite an audience.
The years have been good to me, it was the weekends that did the damage.

We did the trip in September 2017 and had 45407. Lovely locomotive  :D

I watched the quest and channel 5 version and was suprised they were different.
Seems Strange to show / produce something that is more of less the same.

Quest one was good for no commercial breaks

Channel 5 one edge it for better footage, better weather etc for me.
Although I agree there was over use of that silly roof view

Highlights the fact I need to do the trip again as we got a rainy, foggy day so missed alot of the scenes  :unimpressed:
