Thanks to a clogged M6 I didn't get a lot of time at the show but 6 of the 16 layouts were N gauge so a goodly proportion :)
I'll post pics tomorrow as not in the right mood at present.

As said, time was short so just the N gauge layouts to feature, although good to see fellow members 'Mainline' and 'Les Nehrlich'......

Nice set of photos, Mick.

Notice that you're up very early or is that very late?

Thanks, Dave. Still getting the odd nightmare about hospital and there isn't really anything else 'quiet' to do at such a time.

Gawd, that industrial estate layout is something else! I like it, though!

Also like what I assume is a barge being towed out of the harbour on one of the other layouts.

Paid a brief visit this morning, but to be brutally honest, despite the number of N gauge layouts, I couldn't say they were collectively a great advert for our scale.
Batterdale was best of the bunch and OK, but the rest were all of the "cram in as much track as you can" philosophy and operationally varied from mediocre to awful...

Best of the layouts for me were the two US narrow-gauge layouts "Bear Creek" and "Great White River" (not a subject that usually gets my attention)

Oh and a big  to the TrainSim demonstrator who told an inquisitive teenager "SHUSH I'm concentrating on this..."

I think some allowance should be given to such smaller model railway clubs as I'm sure they have not the funds of bigger clubs to attract better layouts or the premises in which to hold a show. We have a few small model railway clubs in this area who do their best to put on a show to raise funds and entertain the public. Maybe too many clubs, some would say. I would agree some layouts packed too much in, but better to see them than a reduced number of layouts. It would not surprise me if I had a better time at Fleetwood than I'll have at Wigan in October!

Owing to normal service being disrupted, Bealman will not be able to join you in Wigan this year, but full report will be appreciated  ;)

I'm always interested to see all levels of modelling. However high/low the skill of the modeller, they've got the guts to put their work out there on show. One could criticise, but I'd rather enjoy and support. Thanks for posting pics Mick.

I still love that extremely populated industrial layout!

Edit: Just had another look. Aerial shot.... building nearest camera has Stephen's bitter on the roof!

How cool is that?!

I don't doubt that the hosts did the best they could with a limited budget, and I'm certainly not against seeing the more 'achievable' layouts at exhibition, my point was that all the N-gauge layouts were of the same (in some eyes outdated) style of cramming in as much as possible and hence in combination didn't show the wide range of advantages and ways to exploit the small scale...

I take it you'll not be stumping up the £280 asking price for 'Robin Industrial Estate' then? :D
