Here is the first test building in 1mm MDF.  It needs a few adjustments, but is exceptionally strong and looks the part.

This is how I develop the basic structure of buildings that will be taken away by our members to substantially complete.  The drawings come from planning applications which are entered into CAD and cut by laser, firstly in Bristol board and then in 1mm MDF.

I have drawings for the first few buildings and i'm negotiating access to the other drawings I need.  The front building is a demonstrator for the show and I have a separate kit for it that will be the final model for the layout.  The one behind is how I will provide them to members.

I got lucky the other day and found a clean copy of a 1966 OS map for the area in Wokingham we are modelling.  I have superimposed it here on our track plan.

A little more progress, including the cricket club pavilion.

I have finally got enough drawings and photographs to generate this last primary set of scenic plates.   this includes workshops a factory, retail shops a fish and chip shop and a Chinese takeaway all of which have resulted in significant re-modelling by the owners over time.

You will see from the white lines derived form earlier and later OS maps there were buildings removed by 1965 and others added after this date.  It has taken a lot of unpicking to determine the correct layout.

Back to the rolling stock.

I spent last night creating a bending jig for the brass wire handles and the results seem to be effective.

I'm going to go into depression. I could never manage that.  :(

Its not that hard as it just a sequence of simple steps none of which in themselves are particularly difficult.

the hardest part was to make the bending jig.  You will just about see two holes at the solder edge.  you poke the wire through then bend it flat to the right, then round the corner up and then down the square slot.  Trim the ends and repeat.  Its a job for sitting in front of a good film and by the time its finished you have made a 100.  :)

I'm really looking forward to seeing these completed. For some reason I seem to recall the angle of the cabs being a little more acute but I put that down more to my memories of them being 50+ years ago
