Hunting for etched brass grilles.....
« on: December 13, 2018, 08:54:24 PM »
Hi

Many years ago I used etched brass round grilles (about 3mm diameter?) to represent the protective covers over rear cab windows on tank locos. I now need some to finish off my W class and am struggling to find any on the usual sites (BHE, EP, etc. ). They may have originally been sold as drain covers, but again I've had no luck while searching the internet. If anyone knows the things I am talking about please put me out of my misery.....

Dave

Hi there have you tried Narrow Planet, they do drain covers for 009 not sure if they will do or too big. Or try N-Brass maybe he does something suitable.

Sorry Dave i don't know but I really want to see your W class.

I have 3 Z kits to get built but a good old slogger 'River' would be very nice

What you want is 4mm scale etched "English Electric" loco horn vents (class 37 /40) they are circular and have slats so could be used as 2mm cab window grills.

Thanks Mike.

I'm not sure that this will be suitable as the grilles are etched in with the rear cab panel. I'll have to see if the windows are the same size and spacing, because cutting them out and trimming to a circular for, could be difficult.

The grills form a 4mm diameter circle, with a 3mm diameter window opening. The window centres are 11mm apart. The brass sheet is approx 5thou in thickness so would cut with sharp scissors.
