Santa's coming by train this year (really!)
« on: December 22, 2018, 10:13:33 PM »
Just found myself browsing around on Realtime Trains and I found this gem of a train on Christmas Eve / Day:

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/S73184/2018/12/24/advanced

Fantastic! Check out the "operational Information" at the top too!

Well done whoever thought of this. Made my day.

Interesting that the service is passing Westminster without stopping. I wonder why that could be? Surely the Westminster children have not been naughty all year, have they?

It seems that even dear old Santa might suffer from unforeseen pathing problems because his timetable, possibly like his waistline, has been extended this year.

In 2013 his timetable called for departure at 2358 and arrival at 0002.  He departed one minute early and arrived back at North Pole half a minute late.

Also in the RTT data for 2013 was the formation of Santa's service which was listed as:

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, Rudolph and sleigh

RTT hasn't listed the formation since possibly due to difficulties in getting the reindeer fit and healthy and at the right depot at the right time.  Just like the real railways!

Exactly Buzzard, as we all know, "motive power is subject to availability".

If that timetable is in delivery area order, I feel Santa is in urgent need of an ergonomics and logistics expert. With a little planning by the appointed Elf, Im sure he could delay his departure until 23:55 and be home by 00:05, thus making it considerably less likely that he will be spotted by some child with insomnia, who, in this day and age, will have a video or photo of him and his sleigh team posted on Twitter and Facebook before you can say Ho! Ho! Ho!

If he came anywhere near me I'd lend him my satnav as he could cut down his travelling time by using more direct routes. Unfortunately we haven't had a station in Devizes since 1966 so I'm unlikely to see him. I will however be in Chippenham on Christmas afternoon so maybe I could collect my presents from the Royal Mail office there  :hmmm:
