N Monorail (that works)
« on: November 08, 2018, 06:40:28 PM »
I'm posting this photo as a tease and I will post more in a few days.  The important thing is it works and if the performance when fully built is good enough I might get some track printed by Shapeways with the rails integrated.

Basically its a narrow gauge railway using TGauge track, motors and coach bogies.  The question I have still to confirm is how many motors will i need.

Yes but it makes it so much easier. :D

The trick will be to get the concrete beam track with the code 40 steel rail threaded into it as flush as possible so it looks as if its the power pickup the monorails typically have.

That is brilliant.

Not sure of the sudden stops at the end, though  ;)

It doesn't go very far, does it?

Wouldn't it be quicker to walk?

(Just kiddin')

Mightily impressive!

At some point do you think it will be able to do curves?

Please post more video as you progress.

Works for me embedded?

Points will certainly be interesting - done like a proper monorail where the whole track shifts?

Iím getting the track made in a nylon type plastic so it can be bent with heat so curves can be variable.

The points will be servo controlled and will either be a rotating beam or a sliding alternate track.  The rotating version might not work as the track discontinuity and gap may be too big for the tiny wheels.

My plan is to build a twin track end to end layout with a point and single track station at each end.  This can be automated with an arduino as an end to end automatic shuttle.
