Messing about with an SQ13

This is a tiny wifi video camera. Just for a bit of fun I bought one off eBay last year. It cost about £16 I seem to remember.
I does have a strong fish eye effect (see video on reply #224 page 15 of this thread).

However because its so small it can easily be plonked in tiny corners of the layout and used to take still pictures.
In my case as Saxon Street is basically an L shape against two bedroom walls there are many angles I couldn't hope to take photos from.
Kindly ignore the erroneous dates showing on the photos, they were all taken today. Not high quality but like I said, just a bit of fun.

Here I've just plonked the little cube on the track and pointed it at platform 1 of Saxon Street where a 101 in NSE livery has just arrived.

I've given these Metcalfe terraced houses a new lease of life by skinning the upper floor with a thin layer of card.
Looks like rendering I think. I need to find or make some Belisha beacons for the crossing,
The old Foden lorry is way out of the vague era even for this Rule one applies layout!

I've always been quite pleased with my bus stop outside of the primary school.
This would have been an impossible view if using a conventional camera.

A real street level view of the seventies semis complete with Willie Eckerslike's XF Jaguar opposite "The Crown" public house recently completed.
The Jag is yet another Rule 1 applies job.

I squeezed the little camera under the canopy of platform 2 Farningham Central to get this snap of my recently added class 142 Pacer.

Another impossible view of the front of Farningham Central with the Memorial Gardens opposite.
No way my arms would be long enough to have got this view.

Can you set it not to print the date on the photos?  I had a similar problem with a tiny video camera I had a few years ago and there was not setting to remove it, I had to edit and crop the video.

There is a .txt file which you have to edit if you want the photos dated. I just forgot to update it.
I suspect just editing the .txt file to blank would do the trick!

Super pictures, Alec.  Very clever.

And the Metcalf buildings look excellent following your modification.

Best wishes.

The Table-Top Railway is an attempt to create, in British 'N' gauge,  a 'semi-scenic' railway in the old-fashioned style, reminiscent of the layouts of the 1930s to the 1950s.

Done that, got the T shirt

As I said in my last post I bought the micro camcorder just for fun. At the risk of boring you all silly, indulge me for another few minutes by watching the little video below.

My point in making it is not to show how inadequate the SQ13 is. Indeed I think it is miraculous that this tiny assemblage of plastics and electronics is capable of producing a still photo let alone video footage! Nay, rather I'm just endeavouring to give you a little glimpse of the immense amount of fun I am getting from running my layout these days. I do pat myself on the back for coming up with a track plan with a goodly number of operational possibilities.

Its time to consign the SQ13 to the storage cupboard. Been there, got the T shirt AND the video  :D
