On spec - it is completely new CAD and tooling "to a high specification" with a diecast body.  Estimated delivery is "Early 2000".

Diecast body is interesting but, as usual, they have hugely missed the delivery date ;)

I wasnít doing N gauge 18 years ago so no wonder I missed the spam can!

This is great news. For those of us who are fussy about what we run the West Country/BoB is a lot more useful than a Merchant Navy. The MNs were pretty much only used on the absolute main lines whereas the West Countrys could be seen on single track lines hauling only three coaches as well as on the main lines. There was even a daily working of a West Country along the GW South Devon main line so I could justify one on my layout. And of course, in contrast to the MNs, some lasted in unrebuit form right through to the end. In theory this should therefore this should sell a lot better than the Farish MN. Judging by some of the offers over the last year I suspect the MN hasnít been the greatest seller.

The prices the un-rebuilt MNs are being sold at suggests that Chris. The rebuilt ones with so many in preservation would have sold a lot better I think, but looking at the chassis would have to be tooled from the ground up, as the current one uses all the room in the un-rebuilt body.

Without question the BoB/WC is by far the more versatile loco and would, I would say sell a lot better. I think there are even pics of one pulling a single coach!

Might as well round it up to 10 years in that case. Will the Farish 8F or J72 beat it to release? They were announced a while back too!

It has to be annoying that the class 50 samples didn't arrive in time for the open day but in terms of sales getting them to the 50s at 50 event is probably going to be more beneficial.

Was there any mention of when the three other HSTs (Virgin, EC, GWR) are due?

I can't remember which loco it was where the comment was "production slot gives us this on sale this side of Christmas, but January is most likely".  With the Class 142s waiting for a suitable ship small delays still can happen even when the items are made and ready.

Ships can also be rerouted- which recent model was it that had an extra week on the high seas because being slowed by a storm caused the ship to be rerouted to Rotterdam and Hamburg before Tilbury as the shipowner decided the cargoes for those two ports were too important to delay?  It wasn't an N-gauge consignment.

I didn't write them down but they are not far off.  Were these on the high seas with the 121s?  Someone else who was there might remember.

:hmmm: I'm wondering - especially now we know Dapol will only be selling DCC-sound-fitted directly themselves and not distributing to retail channels - if that £199 is the price for a DCC-sound-fitted model(?). Perhaps even DCC-sound-fitted(?).

I do want a BoB. Do I bash the Farish MN I purchased when Dapol suspended their BoB last year? Or do I go for Dapol's RTR BoB? I reckon I'll have to wait till Dapol confirm their price, and confirm what sort of model I'd get for that price, and when(!).

What they said was it was 'not actually a Black Label' but would be 'Hi-Spec' with a Die-Cast body and lots of detailing. I don't remember if sound was mentioned though, they are waiting to hear what the 'feeling' in the community would be to the price and spec, but didn't rule out doing it in a cheaper route, I guess without Die-Cast and details...
