In answer to the question earlier in the thread here are two chassis being prepared for the Shapeways body.

The hatched areas will need cut back 1mm on the sides and the end will need to be cut off completely to fit the body.  The body also needs the six tabs cut away on the inside.  Also if you are using the Farish Pool Class 31 and 20 chassis and bogies the Shapeways side frames wont work as the wheel spacing is different.

There is plenty of space for DCC sound and you can see I have already wired the motor brushes for this.

One other point is that the Class 31 bogie tower is marginally taller than the Class 20 so the chassis is 1mm higher at one end.  this is allowed for in mounting the chassis in the body and does not affect the running.

You may need not do machine or cut all that metal, apparently BH Enterprises do a Class 58 kit and that has thinned down bogie retaining blocks, someone contacted us on Facebook and said they may fit the Class 31 chassis.

It maybe worth looking into those and see if BH Enterprises will sell them loose

Mark

Too late already machined :D

This also shows the size of the Shapeways bogie sides.

Mine is nearly done

I'm just waiting for the correct length bogies to be done and battery box

The Shapeways bogie sides for the 6 wheel bogie do not match the wheel positions of the Farish bogies but might be acceptable.
The guy who designed the kit is doing longer bogie side frames for the 3 axle bogie. Gareth cut the side frames off 1 last weekend and came stuck when the ends of the replacements would not meet up with the ends of the farish bogie clip.
See photos of other issues that he raised.

Gareth did try using a fold up etch to stick the side frames on, but it looked rather ?????

I have just looked at some photos of a Class 28 and it appears the guy painting my loco, put the 3 axle side frames on the wrong sides.

I will wait to see what the longer side frames are like.  :D

That was well timed.  I shall put my file down now and wait.   :D

Do you have any timescale as to when the new bogie sides will be available?

Its not our product

I just asked that person if he could design it and he did.

I am still waiting for him to reply back to me with regards to the front end being amended and the under frame being corrected, so that we can put a bulk order in, knowing that everything will be OK and our painter can get them done without any problems.

If I get a reply back I will let you know.

Cheers
Mark

My pair ready to paint.  Some details of the underside to be added, cables and other details.

They look very good but compared to Karhedron's pic in reply #30 they sit quite high off the bogies :hmmm:

Yes they are 1.5mm too high, however, the motor magnet height is the limiting factor and it is not possible to grind a bit off that.   Having said that, virtually every Pool era diesel from Farish suffered from this problem.

There comes a point when you decide that that last change will lead to disastrous concequences and this was one of these decisions.  Also the grey undercoat accentuates the gap and once they are painted in green it won't be so noticeable.

Just been sent photo's of my Co Bo by our model maker.

Still waiting on the under frame, but I have been told that the body will be finished this week.

I am having full open discs on this end, so he only made the top part of the bracket because the discs cover the lower part.

 :thankyousign:

relisted as a complete kit, this was due to everything going up in price, so it would have been expensive if purchased as 3 separate items,

I have asked about it being relisted in the smoothest fine plastic as before.

Cheers Mark

Any chance of the battery box/underframe part being listed separate ?

Regards,

Alex
