MERG
« on: July 31, 2018, 09:05:41 PM »
Been looking to find the MERG website but the www.merg.org.uk found by searching Google does not seem to work -
This site can’t be reached

"The web page at https://www.merg.org.uk/download.php?fid=4 might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address."

Anybody know where they have gone?

If you haven't already got it working, clear your browser cache and try again.

I’m not a MERG member yet but I used to do electronics too back in the day so thought it might be fun to join and start building some of their kits....have you tried?

I am using Merg kits to monitor an control the layout, but not the trains (I use a Sprog for that).

I have built a USB PC interface, several train on track indicators and associated monitoring unit, and a solenoid points controller, all controlled by a "c" program on a Raspberry Pi.  Great fun.

I joined earlier this year, since I'm (now retired) taking an interest in electronics.

Having bought an Arduino I had this bright idea for a computer-controlled siding, with a short train automatically going back and forth along it. Feeling very please with myself, wasn't I - then found it it was not only common, but had a name (Shuttle) :-[.

So I'm having fun looking through their stuff, and working out if I can reproduce it myself.

Have been successful so far, for my "pet" (shuttle) project, in avoiding looking at MERG's offerings and simply copying them!

Well worth visiting their site, and joining them if only to salve your guilty conscience about downloading the "Electronics for Model Railways" booklet which is a valuable source of information!
