Just read through the thread and great modelling. Also noticed that some of the Ashburton photos were taken by my younger brother Ian! I put it down to him that I eventually have started to have a go with Coldhill. Cheers

TOTNES  Chapter 2

The operating programme for Totnes is hypothetical. For normal operations, stock includes up and down express passenger trains, local passenger trains, fitted stock trains, coal rakes (full down, empties up), a mineral rake, a breakdown train, pick-up goods and the branch 14xx and autocoach. A wide range of locomotives are used, from The Great Bear to a humble 517 class (see separate thread "Tales from my Stock Box".)

The up Cornish Riviera thunders through Totnes, double-headed by Dartington Hall and Caerphilly Castle. Meanwhile, a down coal train, hauled by 28xx class No. 2857 makes slower progress.

More photos soon, providing that the forum program doesn't crash on me again!

In my opinion there are very few layouts on the exhibition circuit that can compare with this.

Hi crewearpley40,
Thanks for your kind comments. Ashburton is due at RailWells on Saturday and Sunday 11-12 August but no invites currently for Totnes. I would enjoy an outing, particularly if not too distant. Let's see what happens.
Best wishes,
John

TOTNES Chapter 3

Here are some more pictures, not all of them with trains in!

The Great Bear

A Plymouth to Paddington express hauled by an immaculate No 111 "The Great Bear" rattles through the station on the up through line. Footplate crews disliked having to stop at Totnes as the station was at the bottom of Dainton Bank to the north-east (maximum 1 in 36) and Rattery Bank to the south-west (maximum 1 in 45). Hard work.

Castle House

MV Berry Castle

The river steamer Berry Castle moored at Steamer Quay, awaiting the tide before setting off to Dartmouth. The Town Bridge is beyond.

Totnes Quayside

The River Dart and the mill tail race, separated by a small park Ė The Island (left) Ė meet at St Peterís Quay Pool.  Here, a consignment of Scottish Forestry Commission timber baulks is being unloaded.

More photos still to come.

John
