I am thinking of adding to my DCC commuter set but can't work out exactly which carriages to buy.  Graham Farish seem to do several types.  One has a stripe (like mine) the other doesn't. Some seem more detailed, especially around the windows.  I can't find part numbers but I really want an exact match so can anyone help?

On a related note, I have a brake carriage of some sort and another one!  Ideally I want a couple more that match the set.  Maybe a first class?

Looking forward to sounding less ignorant, but at the moment help is much appreciated!

Graham Farish released the original Mark 1 coaches a long time back and they've gradually improved in print detail etc. Recently Bachmann completely redid them as completely new mouldings with vastly more detail. These are the ones they brand as 'Blue Ribband' with close couplers etc (I believe the set has a pair of these)

There are a few matching coaches out now, and a check of www.bachmann.co.uk will give you the numbers. Several more variants are due out between now and April including catering vehicles.

They will all be the same maroon livery with fine lines. Some vehicles (first class notably) may have a yellow line above the doors to indicate first class.

The ones you want are those labelled as  'BR Mk1' and 'Blue Ribband' for matching stock. Not those labelled '57' Suburban'.

Blue/Grey was introduced in 1965 so the sight of diesels pulling a mix of blue/grey and maroon coaches was not uncommon either for a few years after that.

Very useful, thank you.  I will now do a bit of googling.  Hadn't realised that a mix was a possibility. Looking forward to a decent train with my class 24 heading it up.

Try visiting some sites like Hattons and Rails of Sheffield where you can enlarge images of the products. Then you can compare them with what you already have whilst making notes of the catalogue numbers/prices. Once you've found what you want, check on the forum to see if anyopne has any for sale

Hey,

The Mk1's that match the ones in the coaches are as follows:

374-036 BR Mk1 BG Full Brake - Due to be released in March
374-061A BR Mk1 SK Second Corridor - Same situation as 374-012A
374-084 BR Mk1 BCK Brake Corridor Composite - Due to be released in March
374-107 BR Mk1 RMB Mini Buffet - Due to be released in March
374-130 BR Mk1 GUV  - Due to be released in March

374-257A BR Mk1 CK Composite Corridor - Same situation as 374-012A

Wow many thanks.  Looks like I will be sticking with what I have and gradually add to it.  March should be a good month!

The class 24 in the set is from a batch built March 1960 and allocated to the Eastern region, but were quickly reallocated to Willesden so were firmly Midland region machines from early in their careers. A typical train from that period and of that region would certainly have the possibility of Stanier coaches being mixed in, and would also follow ex-LMS practice of using composite coaches rather than any 'all first' vehicles.

A nice 'trainset' friendly formation would be the typical 4 coach rake, and to give a nod to where the real thing came from and worked you could lengthen the train using a Mk1 CK (374-257 to match those in the set) and either a Stanier BSK (374-827) which would give the train a real Midland flavour or a Mk1 BSK (374-187 the same type as in the set). Combined with the two coaches in the set this would result in the very common BSK/SK/CK/BSK formation found on many routes.

Many thanks for the reply.  I have copied the BSK/SK/CK/BSK onto a post it and will aim for that!
