SSA scrap wagon transfers (EWS)
« on: March 19, 2018, 08:29:58 PM »
Now that my NGS Autoballaster wagons are well on the way and that it is a little too cold in the cabin for more work on them, I am researching my next rake to sort - A set of 4 wheel SSA scrap wagons -

https://ukrailwaypics.smugmug.com/UKRailRollingstock/S-Tops-codes/SSA-Scrap-carriers/

The issue I have is that I cannot find any source for transfers for these, anybody seen anything I have missed?

I am looking for EWS livery not the SR BSC blue livery that Railtec do transfers for.

Any help most appreciated.

Simon

Fox do a range of other wagons - do any of those cover what you need ? F2979/* are the various ones they have

they would but the idea of sorting and individually lettering N gauge data panels fills me with dread, I was hoping somebody had done ready to go complete ones for SSAs. The sheet of EWS logos looks very interesting though.

Am thinking that it may be worth dropping Railtec an email to see if they do custom work.

Best wishes

Take a perfectly printed Farish wagon, put it 2 feet away and read the data panel. So long as there is *something* there nobody will be any the wiser whether it's got correct letters on it or not.

I must admit I find doing those little lettering jobs really relaxing. Get the main decal down and not going anywhere with a spot of varnish and then you can sit there with a magnifier, cocktail stick and some suitably relaxing music (Motorhead no sleep to Hammersmith I find good for that)

As the TOPS code is the most "readable" lettering on a data panel I'd probably start by finding the nearest complete panel e.g.

http://www.railtec-models.com/img/2mm_6071-1.jpg

and once applied paint over the first two letters and then put on what I need.  I would of course first check that the letters are the same height if using transfers from different manufacturers.

Once a bit of gunge has gone over the top who's going to notice the fudge?

I too like the 2 foot rule, saves a lot of hassle.

@bridgiesimon I chose to do POAs in ASW livery. No one has noticed yet that all the TOPS panels are marked TTA from the spares in the NGS kit! Not even at an exhibition where the nit-pickers are out in force. Donít get me wrong, Iíd rather have correct ones but I wanted them finished and had no luck getting any bespoke transfers commissioned with the usual suppliers.
