I wanted a little pill box for my layout. I love Metcalfe kits, but I thought that £5 for the Metcalfe "mini kit" was a bit steep for something that appeared to be a few pieces of laser cut card stuck together (although you do get 2 pillboxes for that !), so I thought I'd go against my mantra of not scratchbuiding anything and give it a try.
Helpfully, the Metcalfe website gives the dimensions, so I basically built a hexagon-shaped box to that size from some leftover grey card from another Metcalfe kit.
I cut some slots in it (before sticking it together), put a piece of black paper behind the door opening and shaded the card with some soft artist pencil rubbed in to it.

Not a bad effort I thought for my first attempt, and I saved myself 5 quid !
