A little more done on SSA today.

The Pratt Truss gantry is now complete with all arms and ladder in place, but what's going on at the end of the platform?

Ahhh spotters :camera: Or could it be the 37 bashers getting their photos of 37425 before jumping on board?

Another signal is now in place. This is the platform 2 starter signal. Standard Ratio 270 cut down a little, so suitable for a platform signal. Etched arms have been used once again and signal arm transfers from Chiltern Modelling Services. Using transfers is so much neater than painting. 20059 and 168 await the OFF. 37425 sits on platform 1 already having ran round it's train.

Cheers

Ch
Wonderful layout!

Cheers boss, it's getting there...

Not long until her first outing! Still lot's to do, including finish off another rake of coaches (we shall not mention those wink wink) and add a couple more loco's to the dedicated fleet :help:

It's all go

Cheers

So 'Project RRMK2A' is coming along rather well. Well if you're going to model the North-West proper in the early 1990's, you've got to model it right! All coaches have now been fully re-sprayed, glossed and transferred. Special attention has also been paid to the running numbers, all except one...

BSO 9419
TSO 5266
TSO 5304
TSO 5353
BSO 9419

I duplicated the BSO's as I only had 9419 on my sheet at the time of adding the transfers :hmmm: Oh come on, they are sooooo tiny :P However, I do have a choice when running. Run them as a uniform rake or pop on my ex NSE BSK 35513 (ex BFK) and the spare 9419 BSO will go onto the end of another rake I have, this being 3 ex InterCity Mk1's. All will become clear once I start uploading photos of my dedicated rakes. Of course, these IC Mk1's eventually were re-painted into Regional Railways.

But here is a teaser of what I'm talking about... 37405 arriving at Crewe in 1993. The BSO is actually a Mk2c, but I'm happy to add my MK2a BSO onto the rake. I also have 37405 in IC Mainline too ;) More of that another day, or just scroll back through the thread to see for yourself.

The said ex NSE BSK (ex BFK) 35513 complete with West of England badge, yellow FC band and re-worked roof shell vents. This was a simple conversion using the NSE coaches from the Farish Capital Connection set. The blue is the correct shade (early NSE blue) and perfect for those Mk2's that were transferred to the North-West after their stay on the WoE mainline.

I also have another Mk2a that could be added from time to time. This is MK2a TSO 5275 also in ex NSE livery with blue band.

Cheers

Hi Anthony, fabulous work on the coaches, they really are jaw-dropping. How do you get the superbly clean lines, fine frog tape?

The layout and scenics look great too, in particular the realistically and sympathetically weathered track.

Ever so sorry for late reply PT and thank you for your kind comments. I have had a wee break for a week or 2, to recharge my batteries, but with SSA's first show date getting ever closer, I need to pull my finger out!

Masking tape is simply Tamiya, available from all good models shops and online. Frog tape is a big no no when re-spraying. Tamiya is low tack, which is perfect for masking up already painted surfaces. Frog is not, and will damage the painted surface on models. Great for DIY and your living room wall, for getting those sharp edges, but certainly not modelling.

Evening all.

Not a lot of updates recently due to 'having a break' but here is a photo of 31438 preparing to depart for Manchester Victoria with a mix and match rake of 4 blue grey & NSE Mk1's in 1990. Stay tuned for some more photo updates soon, as the layout will be set up in the house for a track cleaning, wheel cleaning and pre exhibition running session. Remember we are at the Essex N Gauge show Saturday 31st March 2018 ! Not long now...And no, it's still not finished :'

So the countdown is on. This time next week I'll hopefully tucked up in bed, fast asleep awaiting the rancid 5am wake up call for the jolly across to Essex, for The Essex N Gauge show. Flapping now...I'm not new to the show scene, but it is SSA's first outing, so always a slightly nerve racking time.

Talking about flapping, I have managed to get the Regional Railways Mk2a's finished **Just in time** After a false start back in January, more of that further on down

Here they are bolted together with 37414 providing the power...

37414 Cathays C&W Works 1846-1993. Note the over size numbers which she did carry from 1993 until late 1994. In this time she also carried black plates.

Ex NSE Mk2a 35513 BSK ex BFK

MK2a TSO 5266

Mk2a TSO 5353

Mk2 TSO 5304

Mk2a BSO 9424

Mk2a BSO 9419

Now the last BSO 9419 is bolted onto another rake I have, which is formed of 3 ex IC Mk1 SO and a RR Mk2a BSO

Remember this photo further up my thread... 37405 arriving at Crewe in 1993 with the exact same rake, but remember, the BSO is actually a Mk2c, but shush, don't tell anyone :-X

I mentioned originally that both the BSO's were going to be numbered 9419 (as I only had those in stock) but after a false start (I made a mistake with the blue and white band positioning) I decided to strip them all back and start again! The result after a severe headache is that they are now the correct height. So with that, I had to order more coach running numbers, so i decided on 9424 for the second BSO after checking my books. All authentically numbered now as per prototypes, but yes, they are still very tiny, but readable to the naked eye close up!

So, whats left to do now? I have all my dedicated rakes complete, play time? Well yes and no. Track and loco wheel cleaning will commence this week, also another quick dust over once set up at the show on the Saturday morning. Couple of little details to add here and there, but as for anymore major detail adding, that is going to have to wait util after the show.

Did I mention that all my coach rakes are fitted with the sublime corridor connectors from Fair Price Models...

They really do add that extra touch of realism. All stock is lightly weathered too.

Few more photos to finish the night off...

37405 awaits departure for Crewe

Very apt for the region, 37407 Blackpool Tower on Mk1's awaits the 'off' with the FO service to Cardiff Central

47528 with the Northampton vans

Winding the clock back to 1990 with this shot. 37428 arrives with a service from Cardiff and 31438 prepares to depart for Man Vic

And finally bang up to date in 1995 with 37417 ticking over on the headshunt. You may just be able to make out the driver with his feet up in the mess room :hmmm: Coffee and paper on the go!

Cheers
Anthony

Last minute show preps...

The wonderful Farish BR Type 15 signal box. Typical for the area, and now fitted with name boards and signaller ;D Eventually I would love to kit the interior out with a lever frame and panel, but that is going to have to wait for another day.

I've managed to get a few more bits done "just in time" I'll do another little write up either later on, or Friday before the show.

Cheers

Sadly i must must miss this one.  My wife needs  the car mid aftetnoon.  I fancied driving down to Little Clacton.  In 1959 amd 1963 we stayed at the then Orchard Lea Hotell.

Tonight has seen Sutton St Annes officially signed off by the management. All rail heads, switches and crossings have been tested safe and clean. All ready to be packed up now for the jolly to Weeley, Essex. Unfortunately management has a pre booked appointment with the soft play area and a spot of shopping on Saturday with mummy, so will not be attending the show...

A little testing 'cough cough' playing! 20059 & 168 whistle into the platform ready to be bolted onto the afternoons Regional Railway service to Man Vic. Note the cranks on the end of the platform getting their phots, before boarding the train ;) :camera:

The sun is setting over Sutton St Annes after what has been a beautiful summers day, and we see 08856 pottering about. The signaller has just shouted to the driver "Hurry up! We need to get ready for the Essex N Gauge Show" Which of course is this coming Saturday...

A little layout blub. I hope @midsummerend has plenty of tea bags :smiley-laughing:

So that's it. Shes all tested, cleaned and packed up ready for the jolly to Essex on Saturday morning. Wish me luck all and hope to see you there :beers:  :NGF: :NGaugersRule:

Cheers
