Sentinel 0-4-0 Body Kit
« on: March 11, 2017, 11:28:37 AM »
Hello all,

I have recently been designing a body kit for a Sentinel shunter to fit on a micro-chassis. I have yet to complete the lower section or rear of the cab but apart from that and a few details it is almost at the test print stage! These are the most recent CAD renders:

I am also looking to gauge interest to see if it would be viable to sell as a small kit so if anyone is interested let me know and I'll start a list:) I am not sure of prices yet but once I have finished the drawings I will be able to give an estimate:)

Cheers,

Alex

Interested in either version(7109/SDJR):

Just to add, Alex PM'd me and I'm happy for this to be sold on here.  Thanks!

It's already looking very good, Alex, but, alas, I can't justify one. 8-(

Thank you, I shall start a list of those interested! It has been designed around a TU-7T chassis ( I would put a picture but as I haven't got one yet I can only get an eBay photo and I don't know about copyright issues!)!

Regarding metal buffers I will definitively look into it, it just depends on pricing that's all! If I get sufficient interest I can always have variants with and without metal buffers:) I shall see how it goes and keep you all informed!

Thanks Chris!

Cheers,

Alex

If anyone's interested, if you do a search on eBay for 'n gauge TU 7T chassis' there are currently a couple on sale at£22 and £30 approx.
 :beers:
Size matters - especially if you don't have a lot of space - and N gauge is the answer!

Thanks, that's good to know! Its very tempting to get one whilst its cheap so I can play around with the test print when it gets ordered!

Alex

You're welcome Alex. Your loco looks nice by the way. Unfortunately it's not my thing so, as the Dragons would say, I'm out...

I'd be very interested in one of these. Out of interest, how much compromise, if any, have you made with the dimensions in order for it to fit a commercial chassis.

I have started a list the top of the thread for those interested so I can keep track:)

I have been working from a single scale drawing and images but haven't made any major adjustments to allow it to fit on the chassis. It is just lucky that the chassis has roughly correct proportions for the Sentinel!

Alex

... might be worth going for metal  buffers ???

I agree. Or perhaps: give the body sockets into which turned brass buffers could be glued, while also producing plastic buffers on a separate sprue for those who don't want to use brass buffers.

Similarly, if the handrails are so delicate (or else so obviously moulded on) it might be worth giving the body simple holes into which appropriate brass or even small staples could be used to model the actual handrails.

I do appreciate though that it'd be nice to have an "all in one" moulding you can just plonk onto a chassis. Plus, it's a very interesting choice of prototype!

Cheers, NeMo
