It took me about 20 minutes to set up the temporary layout because everything had to be carried from the spare room and about the same time to put everything away.

This setup will probably be my default choice if I want a quick two-train running session.

I've had to decide whether to model and create signage to represent the station either in Eastern or London Midland Region eras.

Looking at images on www.disused-stations.org.uk it appears until the LM Region takeover, station name boards were wooden with cast lettering but LM Region quickly replaced the old name boards with enamelled maroon running-in boards and platform totems.

As most of my stock represents the post-1957-58 period, I'm modelling this in London Midland condition.
Signs have been ordered online tonight from Trackside Signs.
The shelters will be completed in the next few days.

Both shelters are now completed and installed on the platforms and I'm now waiting for my Trackside Signs order to arrive in order to add the station signs and undertake minor finishing work elsewhere.

Two days ago I received my customised station pack from Trackside Signs and tonight added the station name boards to finally complete the station in London Midland Region style.

Four running-in boards, one at each end of both platforms.

Very nice work.
The nameboards and running in boards look excellent.
If it looks right then it most probably is right.

Signs are sticky-backed vinyls, mounted on 0.5 or 1mm thick styrene sheet and posts made from 1mm square styrene strip.

I ordered Farish's B1 1040 Roedeer from Rails at a bargain price, together with a Scenecraft Leyland PD2 bus in Trent's livery.

The loco is significant to me because it combines my mum's month (10) and year of birth (40); moreover, it was initially allocated to Stratford, then Norwich Thorpe until 1951, when my mum could have seen it speeding through Diss or Tivetshall - source: BR Database
http://www.brdatabase.info/locoqry.php?action=locodata&type=S&id=600201041&loco=1040

However I've no plans to model a section of ex-Great Eastern lines so it'll be loaned to the ex-Great Central.

The GC is currently being well catered for by both Dapol and Farish:

Dapol's 2S-011-003 60103 Flying Scotsman in express blue, or its train pack 2S-011-004 in early crest green ; allocated to Leicester 4 June 1950-15 November 1953 (source: brdatabase.info)

Farish 371-880 2-car 108 DMU, green with small yellow panels, destinations Nottingham/Rugby ;

Farish 372-519 46122 Scot "Royal Ulster Rifleman" in heavily weathered late crest BR green, allocated to Annesley, 15 December 1962-17 October 1964 (source: brdatabase.info)

The most appealing has to be 60103 Flying Scotsman in express blue ...

Not to mention; Graham Farish 371-825B Class 47/0 D1572 in BR Green, this loco pulled the last northbound pines express down the GC on the 3rd September 1966, and this model even has the correct headcode on one end to recreate that working!

Nothing's been done in terms of scenery, but I bought a 3-coach set of Dapol Maunsells, here on test on my small circuit.

Std 5 73158 heads a relief Bournemouth/Portsmouth Harbour to York service.

The whole formation will run through Gotham & Costick, it consists of two portions:
Bulleid 3-coach plus loose TO from Portsmouth Harbour;
3-coach Maunsell set from Bournemouth; unfortunately no catering facilities available.

Note the different shades of green from Farish and Dapol.
I've only got back in touch with quite a lot of former schoolmates and based on where they currently live I'm imagining a service from the south to York via Doncaster and Leeds.
Next thing I'll need to do is to add a portion to/from Bristol to Leeds via the Great Central.

Ssshhh ... don't let London Midland Region know you can travel from Bristol to Leeds via the GC!

A 2-coach portion from Bristol Temple Meads, not advertised, runs as part of a semi-fast service via Bath and Chippenham and is detached at Swindon to be attached to a Swindon-York service. The portion is detached at Doncaster and is attached to a Leeds Central service.

I'll buy Dapol's Collett BCK + TK carriages to form that portion.
