Well Iíve finally taken the plunge and bought a valanced mallard, now time to smarten it up a bit. Apt as union of South Africa has just passed the office window on the cathedrals express :)

I have just ordered a Mallard in Blue, along with some Gresley coaches in red - I saw the combo on a picture of the one of the A4s on a recent heritage run and as I'm not hung up on pedantic realism details [See Rule 1] I thought it's make a good starting point for me getting back into rail models after a long gap.

My stuff arrived and the model certainly looks the part.  The small accessories bag has what looks like hoses and lamps etc.  I've not looked closely - I can't run anything before Christmas anyway as SWMBO is buying the track [going Kato].  Can anyone tell me what goes where?

Good on Mrs B. . And as for going Kato -  . I don't know if you are aware of
www.fiferhobby.com
but there are lots of videos and advice regarding Kato track on the site.

Thanks for the links - the youtube clip shows them best and it looks like small hoses and the like - and I think I'll probably not bother with them either, too much faff

tricky vacuum hoses, link bits that need tacky wax or superglue and careful handling especially if do not want a coupler at front of loco - a job i had once that was not easy on a diesel -
