As I have 27 Esso tanks to renumber I asked John Isherwood at Cambridge Custom Transfers if he would consider doing a renumbering sheet. Two days later I had said sheet on my workbench   :D

It is listed on the CCT web site (sheet BL178) if anyone else is interested:

I just posted this on my layout thread and thought it may be of interest here since I'm shunting my Class Bs for the first time. They're such wonderful models. I'm looking forward to the VEAs and (hopefully) Class As.

They're NEM Dapol magnetic knuckle couplers. I must admit that I have splashed out on Dapol magnets and haven't snapped them in half as some have. I'm really pleased with them and didn't realise how much fun hands off shunting could be. I haven't tried other types of magnets or couplers so wouldn't want to say they're the best but I would recommend them.

Have you cut the sleepers and put the magnets flush with the sleeper tops or fitted them under the track?
I can't see them in the video. Looks like fun :)

I have two methods for this given that I used Peco code 55 initially then swapped to FiNetrax (code 40). The first can be seen in post #42 on my layout thread here (http://www.ngaugeforum.co.uk/SMFN/index.php?topic=23906.30). Basically, since the sleepers are so thick, I've cut them out, chocked up the magnet and then cut 2mm PCB sleepers and glued them on top to try and replicate the timbers.
For the FiNtrax, I just lay the track on top of the magnets, with no modifications to the track. However, I do chock the magnets up so they're touching the sleepers. I'm able to do this as I'm using foam underlay so have sufficient depth to sink it in below the track. I dare say that they'd work even better with no sleepers at all but that isn't worth the compromise for me.

Paul;
Reply #751.
AFAIK, the fitted head could refer to just one vehicle with power brake (vacuum or air) controlled by the loco.
There were different classes of freight trains, which, depending upon the number or percentage of vehicles in the fitted head, dictated the maximum speed permissible for the train.
Some vehicle were 'through piped' which means that whilst not fitted with a power brake itself, the vacuum/air supply could pass to vehicles behind it which were braked. I think it probably didn't count as being in the fitted head, but trailing vehicles could.
There was also a brake van livery variation of bauxite with yellow panelling on the sides around the duckets, and on the end verandah, which indicated an 'air piped' vehicle; I don't know if the van was itself air or vacuum, but I suspect the latter. It would allow through air piping to the next vehicle-the only use I recall was on the Harwich ferry van trains (air braked) between the ship at Harwich and Parkeston Quay marshalling yard, two miles away.

See also about brakes;

Also for anyone interested in freight trains and their operation;
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/gansg/index.htm#stock

There is a massive amount of information within this website.

I'm sure somewhere on this same website there is a better explanation of the various classes of partial, fitted, and unfitted trains.

Hi

Yes, considering the links in this thread that Paddy quoted are to the GANSG website I think so.

Cheers
