I put up my backscene about 10 days ago and also used wallpaper paste which was applied with a small roller. There were two lengths, so about 16' in total. The backscene is stuck to plywood which has two 90 degree bends in the corners and appears to be staying put. (Where's that lump of wood?).

Laurence, that all seems to ge running really nicely.
Very smooth stops at the station and pretty realistic speeds.
You must be pleased.
What you didn't see, because I assembled the video from six individual parts, was that I had to give 9744 a little nudge before it would start from Platform 4.  Also, there were a few phantom runs, where I didn't quite get everything right and had to repeat them.  The pauses in pannning, where the locos 'got away', so to speak, were where I had to take my hand of the panning lever to operate the controls to stop the locos (via the deceleration setting).

Should your camera have the now quite usual anti-shake device installed, you may want to try a hand hold session to see how that comes out.

Hand hold can sometimes let you react a bit faster than if you need to pan and tilt while the camera is on a tripod.

Mind you, trying to do that and control a wayward loco simultaneously is probably a lot easier said than done!  :camera:

The problem is that I need both hands to operate the walkaround from the position where I am filming, so I just need more practice to improve the continuity.  Either that, or I need a wireless walkaround, which is quite an expensive option.

I didn’t get down to the Train Shed for a session this morning, but I did check the temperature, which had already fallen to 12C.  Later in the afternoon (after more rose pruning) I eventually returned for a running session.  By this time the temperature was below 10C and I switched on the heater for the short time I was there.  However, the temperature didn’t seem to affect the running in any way.

I managed to get another recording session ‘in the can’, this time sub-cycle 1b, which I was able to assemble in the same manner as yesterday’s video.  First, you will see 9744 emerge from the branch UP tunnel, bunker first, having run round its train at Norton.  Once it stops at Platform 4, Ivatt mogul 46443 appears exiting the DOWN tunnel with a local train from Worcester, eventually arriving at Platform 3.  Then 5041 ‘Tiverton Castle’ races out of the UP mainline tunnel and rushes through the station, non-stop on its mad dash towards Birmingham, via Worcester.

After Tiverton Castle has disappeared from sight, 46443 departs from Platform 4, heading for Aylesbury with its four suburban coaches.  Finally, 9744 gets the Right Away and heads off in the direction of Shipton, where it will eventually run round its train, ready for its next journey back to Norton again.

 


Hopefully, I am managing to improve my filming technique and, by the time the scenery is complete, I might be able to make a convincing full-length movie showing all the movements of the trains on the Aylesbury and Worcester through Marton Hinmarche.

Just a thought about the backscene, Laurence. I used those plastic spines for holding A4 sheets of paper together to hold mine at the top. OK, I used blue ones but you can get all sorts of colours including clear ones and they are cheap as chips.....................



I reckon they give good protection to the tops of the backscene too.

I haven’t been getting on with scenery building, I’m afraid.  I had a lot to do for U3A, which took all morning.  In the afternoon, I made up the fire ready for the evening and then did a bit more filming.  I am enjoying (mostly) filming and I am gradually getting used to the routine.  However, I did have a number of instances today when I stretched the umbilical attaching the walkaround to the controller too far, resulting in the controller crashing to the floor and pulling out the plug to the DCC bus.  This happened not once, but several times and was a result of trying to find a better position for the tripod for filming.  However, in the end, I managed to film the whole of sub-cycle 1c.

The ‘c’ sub-cycles are for goods trains and here you first see 6417 emerging from the UP branch tunnel bring the branch goods from Norton.  It makes its way round to Marton Hinmarche and stops further up the branch platform (Platform 4) than the branch passenger’s normal stopping place.  Then 7821 ‘Dicheat Manor’ emerges from the UP mainline tunnel with a DOWN parcels train, heading for Platform 2.  Once both trains are safely installed at their respective platforms, Stanier Class 5 45206 is seen emerging from the DOWN mainline tunnel with an UP milk train, headed for the platform attached to Marton Creamery, where it will remain for an extended period so that its milk tankers can be filled ready for transportation to Aylesbury and beyond.

Once 45206 has safely negotiated the crossovers into the milk depot, the points are changed so that the branch and UP mainline are clear for normal traffic.  Then Ditcheat Manor departs from Platform 2, taking the parcels train on to Worcester.  After that, 6417 leaves with the branch goods, bound for Shipton.

 


I had considerable trouble filming 45206 negotiating the crossovers.  It kept grinding to a halt.  At first, I thought it was a problem with the crossovers, but then I realised that it was a recurrence of a problem with the driving wheels, which were locked.  I checked the valve gear and connecting rods, but the problem was not obvious.  It seemed that the problem occurred after the right-hand curve between the two elements of the first crossover.  In the end, I made a slight adjustment to the valve actuating rod on the right-hand side of the loco and that seemed to do the trick. 

I hope you enjoyed watching the video as much as I did making it.  I did make some effort to clear up the various bits of debris around the layout, but it won’t every be completely right until all the scenery is finished.
