I suspect they must be faulty as I have just attached 9v DC PP3 battery to mine and it is quite strong. I have to pull it apart as the item ( a AAA battery) will not drop off. See photo. What I have noticed, and I am sure this is not only the cheaper Chinese magnets, they do get warm to the touch when you leave them switched on. As these will only be used momentarily for this sort of usage IMO this will not be a concern.
