Great Western Railway Stations 1947 Part 2, By R J Smith

Book Review: I picked this up at a recent visit to Welshpool and Llanfair Railway (Llanfair station has an excellent book section).  The focus of this volume is on The Wirral, Welsh Borders and Wales, station numbers 721 to 1612!
What is nice about this book is that each station has a line drawing of the track layout with a good quality photograph (there are a handful stations for which no photograph exists and a pen and ink sketch is used) .  The focus is on those GWR stations open for passengers in 1947, although some goods only stations are covered.
A useful book if you are interested stations and station layouts and a good place to start if looking for  a prototypical track plan for a fictional location.
The book is 571 pages, hardback and printed on good quality paper, priced at 35 I feel it does represent good value considering the work that has gone into it.

ISBN: 978-0-9567317-1-5

Score: 5
