Stupid question time - I know Southern kettles had white disc codes instead of the normal illuminated lamps as per GWR/LMS/LNER etc but did the Southern locos have lights as well during the hours of darkness.

The reason for asking is that I'm just about to install sound into my new Holland Afrika Line loco and want to know whether to provision for running lamps?

TIA

here is one very applicable to what you are wanting to do!

in this image, the spam can has discs on top of the pre built in lamps on the locomotive! so your lamps are techincally under neath the discs you will be fitting!

Have a look on SEMG website. Under Prototype information they have a section on headcodes. There is an illustration of each code and the routes it covered.
